*Disclaimer and a bit of an Urban Modeling synopsis* This is NOT Ballroom, nor is it meant to disrespect the Ballroom Scene in any way. That is also NOT to discredit the ballroom influence that it began having on what we call the Urban Modeling Scene. The Urban Modeling Scene was developed in the DMV late 90s starting out at Eastern High School fashion shows. These later developed into competitions, and hair shows. Eventually, in the early 2000s, Urban Modeling elevated to HBCU’s up and down the east coast, leading to what we called Modeling Troupes. Over the years, the circuit of Urban Modeling Troupes (Now called Organizations, Companies, LLC’s, Non-Profits, etc) have dominated the runway category in mainstream, urban areas and ballroom scene ever since.
