The world we take for granted is not very old. The planet has been here for billions of years, but who's to say there haven't been other tenants? The landscape we see today is barely 4 millennia old. Everything that was here, before 3,500 years ago, is new. Whatever landscape existed no longer does. There are pieces, here and there, that retain some sense of what was here, but everything has been overwashed by huge tsunamis, at least on seven occasions, that any semblance to their former selves is merely coincidental. "C-c-catch the wave", indeed. It was more like, "Cowabunga! I'm outta here, dude!"
