The USA's Sydney McLaughlin has set a new world record with a phenomenal run in the women's 400m hurdles final. The new Olympic champion broke her own world-best mark of 51.90, storming past compatriot Dalilah Muhammad down the home straight to win the Olympic gold medal in 51.46 seconds. Muhammad - the Rio 2016 Olympic champion - took silver, going under 52 seconds in a time that also broke the former world record (51.58). Femke Bol of the Netherlands finished third in a new European record of 52.03.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games took place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021.

  • Sydney is an absolute phenomenon but massive props to Dalilah for her longevity and what she has been through over the years.

Wow!. Four times Sydney and Dalilah have raced against each other. The result? Four world records. Incredible!
  • @johnpcurtin6313
This is the greatest and fastest women's 400mH race in the history of the event and will remain so until the next time Sydney, Delilah and Femke race.

Who's here after Sydney broke her own record again in Oregon??? This woman is spectacular!
  • @billy6540
I'm experiencing Deja Vu here. Both of the mens and womens 400m hurdles were similar to each other. New world records were broken and the top 3 all went under the previous world record holders time. That's impressive
  • @YawAnsongSnr
I've never heard an announcer so unenthused about a world record...
  • Love the longevity of Dalilah Muhamad! She did it well although her age was 31!! So still powerfull
  • @dexterdanieltnt
Sydney and Dalilah are the two best in the world in this event. Surprising that even the American media do not celebrate their performance more. These are the kind of positive role models needed in America.

Mclaughlin is one of those rare child prodigies who lives up to the hype. The trajectory in her rise throughout her track career has been nothing short of impressive.
  • @XDF745
Bol's bonze medal time would've been a world record earlier this year.

Her coach is priceless. Sydney being able to go over the hurdles using either leg is genius. It cuts time as we just watched. Congrats Sydney you are a great woman.

  • Congratulations to Sydney McLaughlin for breaking world record & also winning the prized 'Gold medal'.God's blessing be with her. As a sports person myself, I understand the preparation, hardship & ultimately the joy that brings to the person in achieving what Sydney has done today & in the past.
