Shocking Scam Allegations In The Disc Golf World

Published 2024-08-07
Hands down, it is the biggest drama in the disc golf world, with a shocking scam allegation and an unexpected series of events from a Georgia Tournament director during a Prodigy Event. Did not think this would happen on the amateur side of the events.

  • My bitch about Prodigy (which is way less than the drama here): I ordered two of the Waco Sheriff Rippit discs the day they were released and both came in super ugly - bland colors and both with a flat white stamp. They were nowhere near as vibrant and shiny as the advertised discs. As I was hoping one would be a wall ornament, I wrote to them asking for an exchange and the response was basically sorry, but you get what you get. So yeah, not a scandal but definitely a disappointing experience.
  • As a retailer, prodigy just doesn't move. We gave them a fair shake in 2018 and again in 2021. Unless it's 30% off then someone might want it.

Immediately into this video and I'm already rolling my eyes. I'm not a Prodigy fan at all, but they didn't file a lawsuit against a child... they filed a lawsuit against a professional who was breaching their contract.
  • @chefcosta
Gannon Buhr may have been a minor, but he was not a child
  • My first real discs were prodigy. The ace line in its entirety. Every plastic, every mold. Then I started learning about their management, and the whole Gannon Buhr situation. Then I noticed not all my discs said that they were made In the USA. Some said designed in the USA. So I read up on that whole debacle lol but yeah. As bad as I want to buy prodigy stuff.....I won't. They seem pretty shady. Just I don't know. They don't have a good vibe at all

Im over playing in tournaments. The TD's are terrible at being transparent about how the money is being spent, and the amount of discs that i would never bag are endless. Ive never once gotten anything in a player's pack that was worth the tourney fee. Why not use all of the money for payouts and shop credit for AM's? The shops would benefit, and the players would get discs they wont just throw in the trash. Id rather play a cash game with some buds.
  • No Prodigy for this guy. Sexual misconduct huh? How 🤔 does someone like that have a PR related job?
  • @DDrreewwiidd
Finished 12 of 24 in the Rec division lol. Sounds like he just got into disc golf and likes to cry about anything he can. He wouldn't get paid out in any event I've ever been to or ran. The TD was in it for profit clearly and that sucks. Prodigy sucks and hopefully they and all their baskets disappear in the near future
  • Some of our local tournaments have a tip the TD section which i always happily pitch in for. They are a massive undertaking which is seldom held with gratitude. When it comes to siphoning money out of the community. This isnt a new concept but it doesnt last long. Receipts are an easy thing to ask for and or present. Over-valuing players packs is where its done most so that way they stay pdga compliant. People arent dumb. If its a trend people stop coming.
  • I don't follow or care about any of beef or drama. They make wicked plastic though. Try to find 2 discs to replace the PA-5 or A5.
  • Sir, there are no laws dictating that tournament staff can't be paid. Some are and my local club in our last board meeting brought the subject up and we will start paying the TD
  • @raidonbay
This series is going on just south of Chattanooga. Yes they have a bad reputation for what is going on with the changes.

I have played in a few of Matt’s tournaments in the last year and I’ll say this when it comes to the payout issue he seems to just reuse the same “About this tournament” post. So my thoughts on the bait and switch is he forgot to update it before posting for the finale. He allowed me to sign up for a tournament day of and even waived my PDGA fee for not being current. He has been nothing but kind to me, but I have had friends play in his events and had issues such as spray painted OB lines being removed by participants, and inconsistencies with payouts and trophies. His players packs are also just ok. The Star series I played last year he gave us a putter and one of the New Jerseys which is really uncomfortable.
  • I played this series last year. Can confirm this is 100% true
  • First time seeing your videos and the way you break things down you had me laughing bro so I subscribed and keep it up
  • @ps3smileyface
My Paige pierce f3 has been a staple in my bag for years. Can’t find a f3 that flies like it though 😢
  • All the more reason to dislike prodigy. I used to throw their D1s, which I still would to this day if it wasn't a 1 in 5 chance of finding one that flies the way it's supposed to
  • @peds8345
Prodigy = Inconsistency. Been that way for years, but somehow has gotten even more inconsistent in recent years.
  • @Cory2G
As someone who has putted with PA3’s since I began playing I don’t think I can support this company anymore. Anyone have suggestions for putters that are very similar?
  • @txmxer
I've never understood the mentality that a tournament should payout as much or more than it takes in. It puts TDs in a position to either fund an event out of pocket or play funny money. I've participated in some local leagues or one off events that were not PDGA sanctioned. They were for fun. No profit motive. No onerous rules about the event was run. The PDGA seems to want to take that basic and make it so onerous that local sanctioned events are near impossible. I don't play an event for payout for last place. If I'm playing AN, I have zero expectation of a return on investment. I pay xx$ to go to a theme park, I don't expect to get paid for being there. This payout mentality in disc golf is weird.
