Aftershave is a product applied to skin after shaving. Traditionally it is an alcohol based liquid (splash), but it can be a lotion, gel, or even a paste.
It often contains an antiseptic agent such as denatured alcohol, stearate citrate or witch hazel to prevent infection of cuts, as well as to act as an astringent to reduce skin irritation. Menthol is used in some varieties as well to numb irritated skin.
An alcohol-based aftershave usually causes an immediate stinging sensation after applying it post-shave, with effects sometimes lasting several minutes, but most commonly only for seconds. Non-alcohol-based products also exist.
Aftershave balms are frequently recommended for winter use as they tend to be alcohol free and lotion-like, moisturizing the skin.
Some aftershaves use fragrance or essential oil to enhance scent. Moisturizers—natural and artificial—are often touted as able to soften the skin.
Early aftershaves included witch-hazel and bay rum and have been documented in shaving guides. Both still are sold as aftershaves.

Skin Bracer is a must have for supermarket aftershaves. Strongly powder scented, and slightly minty/sweet.

NOTHING has giving me more compliments than Brut 33. #1 in my listo for sure💪💪💪💪👍

Great ranking video. Others that I have that are not on your list are: RazoRock Blue Barbershop (my favorite barbershop), Crowne and Crane balms, Barrister and Mann splashes, and for a premium aftershave I have Saponificio Veresino Opuntia splash (which is actually more like a gel-splash).

Those are some good recommendations, Greg. I’ve never tried any products from Fine, but am going to try some now. My preferred aftershave is actually a 2-step process. I start with Proraso green aftershave liquid. Once it dries, I follow it up with Cremo’s cooling post-shave balm. The combination works perfectly for my sensitive skin that gets very irritated after shaving. The Cremo balm can also be found easily at drug stores and grocery stores, and is less than $8.
  • My favorite, Brut , Clubman, Zaharoff balm I have nice balm. Of course different fragrance I agree with you!

Great selection of AS Greg. I like a lot of lower priced ASs and don't have many Artisan made ones, for example Lucky Tiger Bay Run and Aspen, Imperial Leather, Blue Stratos, Old Spice, 4711 and the Clubman Pinaud range of AS. Hard to pick a favourite, maybe Imperial Leather as I emptied one bottle this year. The Clubman Osage Rub is my Snake Bite type AS. Take care and have a great Xmas.

stetson me too! been wearing it since I graduated high-school in 2011! The cologne. For aftershave I like aqua velva
  • @sefertonshaves
Some great choices there, aqua velva is my favorite drug store aftershave it reminds of my father, don’t pick up a pee smell though. I just subscribed old man Bailey turned me onto this channel. Stay safe!

Have yet to try Snake Bite. I do however love Fine American Blend! I use lots of drug store splashes- AV Ice Blue, Musk and Original Sport (very green mostly sold in Canada), Old Spice, Brut and such. I nearly always buy sets when purchasing from artisans, PAA, Stirling, Noble Otter etc. Recently started buying artisan splashes to go with unscented soaps along with the way too many other splashes I have and I quite enjoy that. I use vintage soaps such as Williams, Colgate, Yardley and it's nice to just grab whatever aftershave I'm wanting to use and not worry with matching. Nice video and good job narrowing down your lists!! Thanks for sharing! Ramble, ramble...

Another great vid, perfectly edited. A joy. I am, however somewhat intrigued by the fact that it seems that you reckon "mentholated" as unscented. My favorite drug store mentholated splash is the Floïd Mentolado Vigoroso Masaje Genuino, i.e. Floïd Vigorously Mentholated Genuine Massage, that is so heavily scented with menthol that I cannot apply any EDT or EDP afterwards.

AV does smell a bit funky at first. Lilac Vegetal from pinuad smells completely different ,but has the same thing going on.
  • @ProjectRambo
Love Stetson! But I saw in the comments that Skin Bracer was missing and I totally agree. That's my second choice!
  • Awesome vid Buddy, and very good taste. Stay safe and Merry Christmas ⛄🎄
  • @IAMCDB
Excellent video Greg. I really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas sir!
