Im absolutely astonished! The fact that there are more astronauts in the world than foley artist is mind boggling!! Definitely a huge respect for this guy!

Foley artist must be a thankless job. If you do a bad job people complain. If you do it right nobody notices =)

The art of Foley is so impressive and so important. I remember as a kid, playing around with an OLD holmes brand window fan , with 6 blades. stick a clear flexible pipe to it and listening to it. through the tube. It sounded like an ENTIRE 1940s airforce flying at max cruising altitude overhead. Very Foley, and I didn't even understand what that was!

I remember the first time I learned about foley artists was during Republic Commando. The props they used for the weapons and aliens seemed so weird and crazy but worked so well.

Oh, sure, when this guy does it in a specially-built studio, it's a fascinating, often under-appreciated contribution to the craft of movie-making. But when I do it in my garage, it's a tragic cause for concern among my neighbors and relatives.

Sound mixing and editing are the two most important professions in movie making. It's one thing to make a film, buts a totally different thing to make it feel like you're in it.
