The best iron to buy is one that makes it fun for you to play the game. This will be a butterknife for some and an entire set of hybrids for someone else.

Finally got fitted for my first set of irons - TM P790s - 5I-AW. The right length, stiffness, weight of shaft, and heads have made a world of difference to my ball strikingā€¦I can consistently square them up, get more out of a mis-hit, and have discovered a nice little draw to my ball flight. Getting a fitting is game-changing!

I played Titleist blades my whole life. Had a bad car accident last April and broke my right foot in 2 places. Came back in 4 months and my swing just couldn't produce the swing speed I used to have. Reluctantly switched to TM p790's (won a giveaway) & loved them. Just shot 67 last weekend with them.
  • I work at a golf course, needed 1 club at a fitting, my GM PGA pro asked the fitter to look at my irons, no upsell, he said you're fine, we'll talk next year. Love honest fitters!

I just bought a brand new set of Wilson D9 Forged, 5-GW for $500. They look and feel amazing. Worth every penny and so much more affordable than buying a new set of the big brands. I couldn't be happier.
  • Moving to a muscle backed iron improved my game. Mostly from the extra practice I had to put in, and the motivational boost I got from wanting to master something that was a bit more difficult. Not that I'll ever be a master of the irons, ha ha, but the confidence that they inspire when addressing the ball for a cut or fade as opposed to SGI shovels I've used previously.... Totally worth it. Dropped my HC from 20 to 8 in two seasons of working my butt off. Blade irons with corded grips and no glove is a great teaching tool. Old Titleist 695mb's in my bag, and no notions of swapping them out any time soon.

That skit was brilliant šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ love that you always include your team in everything you do on this channel. You all just seem like a great bunch of friends having the best time šŸ‘šŸ¼ā›³ļøšŸ„³
  • I'm a 2 hcper and last year, after 10 years of playing, I decided to really invest into my golf for the first time. I spent money from my summer jobs and put them into my first fitting. After fitting, those guys made and sold me ,,my ideal set of new irons" for lot of money. But after 3-4 months of playing them, I just started to feel uncomfortable w them.. they made me shorter, less consistent and also two shafts I broke or damaged just w swinging. I did feel like Lord Voldemord w the Elder Wand. They were amazing clubs, but just didnt listened to me. So after 6 months after fitting I sold them and after that I bought for a 300 dollars a second hand Mizuno JPX 850 forged.. 8 years old, little bit scratched.. but now I'm playing the best golf ever, shooting around par every round and feel so much confidence w my game and w my irons. So I have a very best proof, that second hand clubs could be the best option for you! šŸ˜Have a nice game!

I just made my first irons upgrade since I started golfing a year ago. I started with Cobra game improvement irons from a box set and just upgraded to a set of TaylorMade P790s 4-GW (2019) and I bought them used for for $500 in fantastic condition. Best purchase ever, super happy I bought used and didnā€™t spend 3x the amount for brand new ones. I just gave them a deep cleaning and polished after buying and they look as good as new. Highly recommend buying used!

I got a fitting last week for driver and irons, and ended up with AI Smoke Triple Diamond driver, and Ping i230 irons. I had absolutely no preference to brand so it was interesting to see what worked.

Great video Pete! Still rocking my t-rail irons from when I was a 30+ HC. Made it down to a 15 HC, but recently regressed a bit to a 20 and glad I hadn't made the move to a sleeker set as of yet. Maybe once I get down below a 15 again, I'll think about getting something more fit for me, but for now, they work!
  • @casparus1
Thanks Peter for another great video. For the record Iā€™m using ā€˜game improvementā€™ irons and play off 2 handicap. As you said, go for a fitting šŸ˜Ž
  • I own a set of Adamā€™s Tight Lies, about 20 years old and I havenā€™t found anything to replace them yet. They play well and have great feel for me. The cast-forged face seems like a good option for me because they can handle my swing which isnā€™t good enough for blades but too good for cavity backed or similar. Thanks for the post.

I used to play off 11 but that was 25 years ago. I took up golf again this year and have purchased a second hand set of Wilson D7s. I'm very slowly working towards putting in 3 cards to secure a 28 handicap. Not like it used to be I'm afraid but I've always enjoyed using Wilson equipment. My next set will be D9s.

I started playing last year and a Ā£50 set of Callaway X12s off eBay are doing me just fine. Yes they needed a bit of work to get the dings out of the soles of the short irons, and new grips but they play lovely.

Just got fit for some P7MB today so I am glad these got the big thumbs up

The most memorable iron shots I have ever hit (the shots we all have in our memory bank) have been with older Mizzy MP69 Blades. Spot on flushed, perfect ball flight and landed within feet of the pitch mark while being directly on the yardage. The shots that keep us all coming back. While they awesome to play, colder mornings during fall golf season here in Calgary (5-9 degrees C) do not like thin blade strikes. LOL. I've blended with MP69 8-9 and MP53 CB 4-7. Perfect blend for me.
