So Karrablast, Escavalier, Shelmet and Accelgor, I understood the basic idea of them, but it wasnt until JUST NOW that I got a deeper understanding of what they are and why they do what they do! I always thought that Pokemon evolving by trade was stupid, especially these pokemon. But now that I know their origins, these guys are awesome! Let me share my possibly obvious findings with you today.

  • To add another layer to this; one of Karrablast's abilities is Shed Skin, but Escavalier doesn't have this abilities. Perhaps Shelmet uses Karablast's discarded skin to make the bandages that cover its body. So maybe this trade evolution isn't as one-sided as it appears to be!

Me before watching: "he gave his armor cus they're good friends" Me after: "I was so naive"
  • @sanfransiscon
I did some research, and the Pokedex does state that Karrablast steals the armor, and that it is ATTACKING Shelmet during the trade. It also mentions electrical stimulation during the trade. So it's possible that Shelmet quickly learns to outrun the Karrablast-turned-Escavalier.

I thought this would be about something painfully obvious, but you went straight to the heart of its origins, so I'm now satisfyingly informed.
  • @smugsneasel
Don't worry dude. Back in highschool, my friends didn't realize anything about the Uno, dos, tres in Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. And when I casually mentioned it to them, it blew their minds.
  • @munnymic
I think Machoke and Graveler were meant to be traded with each other too. Golem has Machoke’s head and Machamp has Graveler’s 4 arms.
  • So there's a beetle out there that actively hunts snails... I shouldn't even be surprised, and yet I am. And here I thought eating snails was so gross that only the French could stomach them.
  • @ketchupacket
I typically thought.... “Can I have my Gengar back?” “No”
  • @Nyatosu
I did know the whole armor-stealing thing, but I didn't know there was a snail-eating beetle. Thanks Gnoggin, I learned something new. Maybe you could do a video on how trading Pokémon (with or without certain items) causes certain to evolve. If you want, you can also cover all methods of evolution like levels, knowing certain moves, certain locations, stones, friendship, affection, orientation, weather, etc. Also, imagine a world without trading and believing that Machoke, Haunter, Kadabra, Karrablast, Shelmet, Pumpkaboo, Phantump, Spritzee, Swirlix, and many other Pokémon were already the final evolution.
  • Maybe is it also a cultural exchange (knight being the occidental warrior and ninja being the oriental warrior) to celebrate the first game in the franchise that takes place in a region that's not inspired from Japan?

I’d like to point out (just for trivia’s sake) the Pokédex in the games states how kaarablast steals shelmet’s armor during a trade. Apparently a certain digital energy mixes up a Pokémon’s DNA during a trade which is why certain Pokémon only evolve when exposed to this energy. It also explains how scyther and onix evolve while traded and holding the metal coat. The energy bonds the creature with the metal it’s holding giving it a new metallic form. Again, not trying to be a jerk. I just wanted to share my Pokémon trivia.
  • You should explain every trade evolution. Here’s one: kadabra evolves when traded because with a new trainer, kadabra has more knowledge to learn, thus making it evolve into a smarter being,.
  • @sigma_azn
To explain Accelgor's bandages, here's the Pokedex entry: "When its body dries out, it weakens. So, to prevent dehydration, it wraps itself in many layers of thin membrane."
  • @mestre12
I knew Karablast did steal the shell, but, i dint knew it was based on the snail eating beatle. Make that evolution much more intresting.
  • @MegamanGuy444
Accelgor is one of the very few Bug Pokemon that I like. (Mainly due to its design and its trivia) But, I always just hated the fact that its just a pure bug type. Personally I thought it should've had the dark type also, and maybe its like, plotting its revenge against Escavalier.
  • But wait, doesnt this proces makes them rivals. Just like zangoose and serviper?
