The Mounted Color Guard is based here in Barstow Ca. and is the ONLY one in the Corps

The Army, Navy and Air Force have songs. The Marines have a hymm.

Spent 23 yrs in the army but the Marine hymn still moves me

The day I graduated boot camp at Parris Island South Carolina was awesome. I was a fifth generation Marine and proud of it. My father, an uncle that was a full bird Colonel at the time, and my grandfather were there. I told my senior grill instructor the evening before who was going to be there and he wanted to meet them. He was a fourth generation Marine and he was honored to make me a 5th generation Marine.

Yes my late Husband was in the MARINES in 1970 +1973 he passed away on October 2nd 2019

Right there in the Marine Corps hymn - From the Shores of Tripoli. The U.S. Marines went into the barbary coast and wiped out the muslim slave trade. They were taking Americans hostage and turning them into slaves - and it didn't matter what color you were - white, black, purple, green. The U.S. said no more and cleaned their clocks, but of course the northern coast of africa in 2023 is a hub for slavery. Look it up.

I am now 75+ years old, live in Australia and was taught the words of that era ie "the finest ever seen" by my Mother. I still they should be used but perhaps the words in verse 3 tells it all . My respects to the USMC

I heard this once in the 1990s sang loud and practically yelled live and it made me cry.. I've heard it sang since low and slow and thought it ought not be sang if there's not enough men and they don't yell it out

Semper Fi! I sing the words every time it plays on my phone even though it's been 33 years since I graduated boot camp.
