I grew up here. Been through the canal a hundred times. 1, slow down. 2, don't buy a bow rider. 3, don't overload your boat. 4, keep the weight in the rear. 5, keep in mind that a large percentage of boat owners have no freaking idea what they are doing!

The first mistake made by all these captains was at the dealership, when they bought lake boats for sea use

No lifejackets on kids, riding in the bow, stuffings a plenty, and kids screaming in fear. Beautiful day out with the family!

Note to self: never purchase a boat with a bow that was designed to work like a snow shovel.

Most of these could have been avoided by the captain slowing down and moving the weight to the back of the boat.

Here in Italy, in channels like these, there are speed cameras, you automatically get a nice fine!!!!!

Was caught in this same canal in Point Pleasant over 20 years ago when I was a young inexperienced boater.. I was with my wife and 3 small kids in a 16 ft boat going outbound. All of a sudden the waters started getting rougher and rougher. People traveling inbound on much bigger boats were waving for me to go back. Thank god I had the sense to turn around and go back or we would have gone under!! Rough waters are no joke!!!

The lack of lifejackets worn there especially with kids on board is truely amazing!
