On day eleven of the road trip through France we drive west through the Auvergne eventually arriving in pretty Sarlat-la-Caneda. Sarlat sits a short way north of the river Dordogne and is built largely of the wonderful honey coloured stone that is such a feature of the area. The modern world has pretty much passed Sarlat by enabling its medieval core to survive, save for one more recent road which carves through its heart. We had plenty of time to explore this lovely place before enjoying a meal at one of the many on street restaurants which decorated the streets by night.

    Sounds like you had a fantastic time in Sarlat-la-Canéda! The town must be charming - I can just imagine strolling down those narrow streets, browsing the shops and restaurants, and soaking up the beautiful views. The historic church and buildings sound impressive too, and I bet the bridge at the start sets a lovely tone for the whole experience. Great to see you enjoyed it both day and night!
