NEW, UPDATED ACUTE BRONCHITIS VIDEO 👉👉👉    • Acute Bronchitis - Overview, Causes, ...

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the airways that carry air to your lungs. It causes a cough that often brings up mucus, as well as shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic.

The same viruses that cause colds and the flu often cause acute bronchitis. These viruses spread through the air when people cough, or through physical contact (for example, on unwashed hands). Being exposed to tobacco smoke, air pollution, dusts, vapors, and fumes can also cause acute bronchitis. Bacteria can also cause acute bronchitis, but not as often as viruses.

Most cases of acute bronchitis get better within several days. But your cough can last for several weeks after the infection is gone. If you think you have acute bronchitis, see your healthcare provider.
Treatments include rest, fluids, and aspirin (for adults) or acetaminophen to treat fever. A humidifier or steam can also help. You may need inhaled medicine to open your airways if you are wheezing.

You probably do not need antibiotics. They don't work against viruses - the most common cause of acute bronchitis. If your healthcare provider thinks you have a bacterial infection, he or she may prescribe antibiotics.

Had coughing for 4 days then went to doctor, was diagnosed with bronchitis and given antibiotics as she said my right lung was full of blockages. 5 days later my lungs feel clearer but there is still mucus at the top of my lungs that I can't get out very easily. I found a great help was a hot bath every morning, lay down flat so my head and chest were under water (with nose and mouth still able to breathe) and do slow, deep breaths. You will frequently need to cough up lots of mucus into the toilet. Keep doing this for 20 mins until lungs feel clearer. Have another hot bath in the evening before bed and do the same.

I have it now. Does anyone else experience where one moment you feel fine and the next ( especially at night time) you coughing a storm. My mucus has been from green, to white, and now a slimy clear. I’m unsure if that means I’m getting better or not. My doctor wants to put me on steroids if it’s not gone in a week, but last time I was on steroids I had the WORST experience ever and it sent me to the hospital twice.
  • I'm currently suffering from this, I had it a month ago too, the chest pain is unbearable, breathing hurts, coughing feels like getting stabbed with a hot metal rod, but I refuse to see a doctor or go to the hospital, I'd say the most annoying thing is the mucus coating my "inner throat", and the dryness that follows coughing the mucus out, I'm very tired, there's pain behind my eyes, my nose is runny and stuffed at the same time, I get dizzy everytime I stand up, truly good health is a crown only the sick can see.

Everyone, please drink pineapple juice everyday. I swear that destroyed my bronchitis within 3 days. I was alone and scared with how my chest felt tight, wheezing and popping sounds. The burning feeling in chest from mucus cough and sore throat and roof of mouth was hell. The bromelain in pineapple juice is great for healing the chest infections.
  • First time having this disease. Esophagus feels very sore, so does the back of my tongue and roof of my mouth, and hurts to swallow. The thing is I don't understand how people claim they constantly cough like a cold, which I'm not experiencing. I just cough a couple times occasionally and can breathe perfectly. Other than that, 7/10 disease, slightly reccomend.
  • I got bronchitis around 10 days before Christmas. Symptoms I had: Coughing for like 1 month. It became more intense during the last week or so. I had a fever and sometimes vomiting.

I had bronchitis one time and I thought I was dying. It was terrifying. I was sick for over two weeks.

Bronchitis doesn’t sound that bad, but damn I’d never wish it on my worst enemy. Everything hurts and the cough continually gets worse until you’re throwing up. I’ve had it for a week and now after seeing this and some research and all the comments, I know I’m in for a hell of a rest of a month. I’m gonna have to get a humidifier because sleeping in the shower for the steam just for a small break from the pain is not it. Good luck to everyone else!

I have this right now and can’t afford to miss work so I have to work with it

Minor acute bronchitis doesn't hurt at all. The only thing that is a problem with it is that it produces small amounts of mucus to make you cough, but not enough to restrict airways. Likely not enough to cause chest pains hence, doesn't hurt. Several times I had the cold and it's always the cough that lingers after. 4 times now since after my puberty years, cold/flu will leave a lingering cough. 3/4 of those were acute bronchitis. First time I went to my primary physician, I was given medicine and i recovered in about a week. 2nd time, I decided to sit it out because it was just a cough and it doesn't bother me too much, that one lasted for just over a month. The third one I went to my primary physician after the 2nd week of lingering cough. Lo and behold, was diagnosed with acute bronchitis, receive prescription med, and I recovered within the week. I can't imagine what a true bronchitis infection is. I could tell you the minor one still puts you out of breath due to the amount of cough you have to do. The amount of deep breaths you have to do. But no chest pains. Very annoying. Maybe it's just my body being more resilient to chest pains. Maybe in 20 years when I'm considered an old man, I'll really know.

I’ve had bronchitis since I was 1 year old so I know how it feels and I have it right now you cough until you can’t breathe 😢
  • I had bronchitis for like 3 weeks, it's like every time I ate something heavy I threw up, even when I coughed I threw up. But on the bright side I didn't have school for weeks, but the coughs still sucked. I even missed the snow 😦
