Principles of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy

Published 2019-05-17
This video covers the basic principles of cytotoxic chemotherapy - drugs used by oncologists to treat cancers that work by disrupting cell division. It covers the difference between chemotherapy and other systemic therapies, terms to describe where in treatment chemotherapy is used (curative, neoadjuvant, adjuvant, combination/concurrent and palliative), how it is administered, the broad mechanisms by which they work (in the context of the cell cycle), their side effects, why dosing is scheduled mostly in cycles, whilst briefly talking about resistance and the rationale behind combination chemotherapy.
