As a software engineer myself, this is the most accurate "day in the life of a Software Engineer" video I have seen. Touches lot of daily aspects in life and off course Coding.
  • @antoinealez12
the cut to the dog sleeping after she explained what she was doing was perfect comedic timing. Y'all knew what you were doing.
  • Man, I would love to start my day in my bedroom at 9:00, take an hour lunch break, an hour trip to the market, and half an hour of personal learning, then finish at 4:00 and say I worked 8 hours, lol.
  • @danielfennerdev
This felt super down to earth and real, great video and only makes me more excited to break into the software dev industry

Some comments says they want to be a software engineer. It may be because this video shows the benefit of working from home, but acutlly I think where you can work properly depends on your personality. As an employee, I am not use to working from home for many days. Sometimes I can't reply urgent messages instantly because I am away from my computer and it may let my colleagues think I am being lazy. That makes me feel nervous. But as a software engineer, I can experience your perspective. Sometimes I would get stuck on implementing codes, and at that moment, I really need a quiet environment for taking a rest and relaxing my brain. It often really works in helping me solve my problems.
  • Thanks Sarah for walking through your day as a software engineer. Very insightful especially for folks who aren't in the software/tech industry. I noticed that you are taking a course to eventually move into a management role (project manager) from SDE. I can also maybe suggest considering one more role which is the product manager role as I noticed you like to use your creative side (from journalism). My understanding is that product is more creative/strategic (answers the "what to build & why") and project/program is more operational (answers the "how to build").
  • Wow this has to be the best day in the life i have ever seen. Loved how she explained everything. Keep up the good work.
  • @AhmetMurati
I am a software developer I have been developing apps since 1994. QBasic, Turbo Pascal, Delphi, Java, C, C++, C#, PHP, JavaScript, CSS,Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot. The day of work from home is completely same as mine.
  • I'm software Engineer too. And my days are spent exactly like yours. Good luck. I live in Russia
  • I want to get into IT. Please make more videos about IT. This video is a great start!
  • @Nik-rx9rj

  • @abdulhameed8023
Thanks, Sarah, I am thinking of doing the same, food, working, and learning, it's just amazing.
  • So she worked 9 - 4, took a lunch break, and ran a personal errand? And then logged 8 hrs of work? Am I missing something? Not judging, just curious if working in tech is that relaxed..!?
  • @innocentrage1
Nice to see an actual walk through of the day instead of 8am get to work and make coffee, 815 code, 830 go to the gym 12 go to lunch at our companies 5 star cafe, 1 go walk in the park, 2 go play in the ball pit and go down a slide at some faang playroom, 315 code some more 330 check email and pet my dog till 430pm
  • @20-NYC
Stressful? She started work at 9am (supposed to be 8am), took 2 hrs break, and ended work at 4pm, she worked 5 hrs, logged in 8hrs..
  • Wish we could be remote. I am an L5 Google Software Engineer that was remote. But today they are calling everyone back to the office. I loved being remote.
  • Hey there! I am genuinely glad to come across this video. I've been using Indeed for a while now, but being able to connect on a deeper level such as here, on your YouTube channel does gave me some additional insights. Sarah made the overall experience a really exciting one. I would love to connect w/her. Thanks!!
