Gary Player and I go back a long way 😄 First met him in 1958 I think it was, at a tournament in Edinburgh. I was 21 and he was 22, a young hot shot from South Africa. I had heard about him and I wanted to see him play. It was a Saturday and he was not really in contention. There might have been a half-dozen fellows watching him. I followed him for most of his round and he chatted to us as he shot a 66. Not long after i emigrated to Canada and only saw him on TV. Ever since I have admired him and followed him with interest. I still play and can also shoot my age. Long live the Black Knight!

Gary is defying the ageing process. I know 40 year olds who are nowhere near a fit as him. His enthusiasm is infectious.

Brilliant Andy, many thanks to PXG and Gary for making this happen.
  • Good Old Gary Player. Still got it at his age and loves what he is doing...A Great Golfer....Played with some of the best, Jack, Ben, and Arnie...What a life....Thanks....

There's nothing more that Gary likes than playing golf and talking about Gary 😆

Very enjoyable to watch. I could listen to him talk about golf all day! Andy, your pleasant demeanor is a perfect match for talking with him.

72 now - age, not golf score! Gary Player is inspiring for older golfers and although I could never get to his level of fitness (nor golf ability) it might be time to take care to follow some of his fitness advice, golf tips and general life thoughts. Great to see him so active at nearly 90 and hope he will indeed break 100 - that's break through the age line. I'm sure he'll always beat his age on the golf course every time he plays. What a game we all enjoy and how well served we have been served by the stars of our sport over the years. What a thoroughly enjoyable half hour this video has been. Please repeat another time soon. Half an hour with golf chat and questions is immensely welcome. BTW I was given a golf glove by Gary Player during filming of the Big 3 golf at St Andrews back in the mid60s - he recognised that I'd been at Carnoustie the previous day. He called Arnold Palmer over and he gave me a golf ball.
  • Gary has just topped me back up with desire and enthusiasm. I have felt a bit sorry for myself recently, and that was like a tonic. Cheers to you both.

Andy you have just had a priceless gift of lifetime! A playing lesson from Mr Player I so wish I where walking in your golf shoes on that day .👣

You and Gary Player talk about adversity. If you want to see true adversity come and watch me trying to hit effing driver straight 😂

Gary Player is great. It's always great to see people who have accomplished so much be so nice and humble - and funny! A lot of that has to do with his generation. "The greatest gift to any person is adversity." Wow, so true. We learn so much and achieve so much from going through adversity. I agree with him, I'm an American and to me The Open is the best major. That area is the birthplace of golf and I believe the best test of one's all around game. I love watching it every year.
  • Player is a consummate pro and gentleman; just uncommon sense in a maniacal world. His stories are other worldly.
  • Got to See Gary, Jack, Lee, Tom and Anika chop it around in Houston this year. Player is amazing. I regret not walking up to him and gifting him a Black Golf Ball. He is truly amazing.

Mr. Player… what a great man and a man to be listened to
  • @evacox-fm7ze
This wonderful man has given us so much pleasure and now he gives us oldies so much hope❤
  • Absaloute delight to watch and listen to everything gary had to say, such an up lifting video, thankyou, 👍
  • A day you'll never forget you lucky boy. Gary is an absolute gentleman and while long in years is still young at heart and an inspiration to all us ageing golfers. He played our links in Tralee last year where I had the pleasure of meeting him and those of us that saw him on the range and on the course were left awestruck. On the first tee he said the golf swing was "all in the hips" and proceeded to spank his drive 200 yds + down the fairway into a draught. Great video !!!!

You lucky lucky man, he is one THE greats of our game. 9 majors proves that and when you know the people he played with proves his quality. Palmer, Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson to name 4. When I 1st tried golf in the 70’s he was one of the stars then and had to battle to overcome adversity, I read his autobiography years ago and even then he would not ease in the daily fitness regime to allow him to compete at the top. He is one of the people who I would love to meet and shaken hands with. My dad had a small paperback which was a collection of Gary PLayer golf tip strips that used to be in the express/Sunday express the number of times I read that. Loved this, keep your head down 😁
