"Played only 18 times, from Fall 1988 to Spring 1990, Built To Last was the title track of the Dead's final studio album. The bridge usually featured a unique Jerry-Phil harmony. Interestingly, the Dead would only play it one time after the release of the Built To last album" - David Lemieux

Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.

It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

Massive shame that this wasn't performed more. Such an amazing Jerry tune.
  • This song is amazing!! I absolutely adore the lyrics to this beauty!! 🕉⚡️🍄☯️☮️ "..morning breaks here comes the sun..."
  • Underrated tune at least in my book. The one from Alpine this year brought me to tears, first set classic!! Man I miss this band, these were my good old days!!
  • There are times when you can beckon, There are times when you must call. You can take a lot of reckoning, But you can't take it all. There are times when I can help you out, And times when you must fall. There are times when you must live in doubt And I can't help at all. Three blue stars rise on the hill Say no more now just be still All these trials soon be past Look for something built to last A wind held by the collar, Yes, a cloud held by the breeze You can walk on coals of fire But sometimes you must freeze There are times when you offend me And I do the same to you If we can't or won't forget it I guess we could be through One blue star sets on the hill Call it back you never will One more star sinks in the past Show me something built to last Built to last till time itself falls tumbling from the wall Built to last till sunshine fails and darkness moves on all Built to last while years roll past like cloudscapes in the sky Show me something built to last and something built to try There are times when you get hit upon Try hard but you can't give Other times you'd gladly part With what you need to live Don't waste your breath to save your face When you have done your best And even more is asked of you Fate will decide the rest All the stars are gone but one Morning breaks here comes the sun Cross the sky now sinking fast Show me something built to last

    Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! 💀 ⚡️ 🌹
  • Thank you mom for being a Grateful Dead fan. I miss going to the concerts with you. I miss you too. Embrace life and be grateful for those moments. I feel the energy always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
  • I'm crying because I was there, and my life has gotten so bad compared to then. Being at Dead shows was the best feeling. I'm ready to join Jerry.
  • This is one of my favorite shows that I got to go to!! Such good memories!! Miss you boys together. There will never be a band like The Grateful Dead!! ❤❤❤

The George Washington look was always one of my favorites
  • So I was here 100%! Sober. Seeing this song was just one of those magical moments like when they played St. Stephen at MSG after the hearing the hard core DEAD HEADS telling us about the west coast shows. Those were the good old days & I didn’t realize how good they really were when I was right there. This is such a great video! Thank you!!! 🇺🇸

the version at Knickerbocker ‘90 was, in my opinion, the finest version yet. Which makes it kinda sad Jerry decided to shelve it after that night. This was a powerful song just emerging into its own.

My first show. I've been hooked ever since !
