  • Titanic was an ocean liner. It was what people used to cross oceans in place of airplanes, and as such it was a transport ship first and a luxury ship as a distant second. Most people on Titanic didn't see it as a cruise. Even the lowest class on a cruise ship today is still meant to be enjoyable, but steerage in Titanic was just bare-bones transit. Plus, an ocean liner just goes from point A to point B with maybe a stop or two on the way to point B, while a cruise ship can go to any number of points, or even linger in the ocean for a while.

Titanic was not a cruise ship, it was an ocean liner. Different transportation categories 😉
  • Crazies thing about Moss HIll is he was a hero two separate times. 3 years after the sinking of the Oceanos. He was on the Achille Lauro when it sank in '94. Though the crew and captain stayed and didn't abandon their posts unlike the Oceanos. But that didn't stop him from doing his best to make sure passengers got onto life boats before he and the crew got themselves to safety.
  • The Oceanos entertainer keeps the site up so people don't forget. Living History. This isn't a difficult thing to suss out.
  • I like how he doesn’t even explain how the water got in the Oceanos. I believe the pipe connected to one of her ballast tanks burst because of the waves. Usually the watertight doors would keep her afloat, but during the voyage, passengers complained about a nasty smell coming from the ship, and so they removed a sewage pipe to try to fix the problem. Unfortunately, water was able to get through this open pipe and flood the rest of the ship. So if you were wondering how the waves made her sink, here you go.
  • I think the crew, especially the captain, abandoning the ship and the passengers is an unforgivable betrayal of trust.
  • I was on the Splendor. No hot food for four days and the pop tarts the helicopter brought were tasty after days of sandwiches. We never ate spam like the media said. I took my free cruise the following year and it went perfectly. I still love cruising!
  • I remember seeing the Concordia a few years ago when leaving the port of Genoa. It was an absolut giant and I recall thinking: "How were the people responsible of that ship this stupid?"

The Titanic collided with the iceberg on the 14th April, not the 15th as stated. In addition, it was not a cruise ship.
  • So sad to hear about what happened to the Carnival Triumph. I was on that one back in 2012 and the cruise was just fine. Nothing bad happened and we got there & back safely.

im going on a cruise in 3 months, and this is the recommended video i get. thats just LOVELY
  • I was on that Carnival Splendor cruise ship Nov 8 2010. It was a friggen nightmare! I have cruised several times before on Royal Caribbean which I love their cruise line. I have a kinda funny but weird story about being on that carnival ship. After the fire started, on the second morning of the cruise. I had a dream that there were two dogs 🐕 that were tied up to the ship to help toe us back to California. The next morning the Captain came on the intercom announcing that they will be sending two tug boats to our ship to toe us back to port in Ca, well when the tug boats showed up there were names on the side of each boat, one was chihuahua and the other was another breed of a dog. I couldn’t believe I dreamt that! We did end up taking the makeup cruise which was fine, however I will never go on a Carnival cruise again!
  • I once had a friend who was in the Costa Concordia on vacation and when I heard that the cruise sank I was a bit worried for my friend. Still, he survived and he told me and my other friends about it and he didn't even realize it was sinking until they heard crowds talking loudly in the hallways. we were glad him and his family survived

Titanic was an oceanliner, not a cruise ship. There is a difference between the two, although most people just combine them into one classifcation. That being said, I don't know if I'd say the Titanic made the top 5 most expensive disasters though. I will agree that the Costa Concordia is up there probably in the top 5 based on the amount of work that was done to salvage the ship (lift and then tow it, not to mention any compensation to families).
  • On the Concordia the elevators stalled and everyone trapped in an elevator was there through the capsize and sinking. Imagine living through the trapped in an elevator experience only to have it lay on its side and flood. Other people who were handicapped lost their lives sitting at lifeboat muster stations. The sinking was in many ways worse than Titanic and a movie should be made on it.
  • The Titanic was not a cruise ship. She was an trans Atlantic Ocean liner.

Wow….sailed on that first ship, the Carnival Splendor twice out of New York. By 2013 the ship was fine…no problems at all, and I had two great sailings.
