I listened to this last week when i was in a solo trip in tokyo. Thank you for the playlist. I was walking home a bit tipsy from a bar in Shinjuku to my hotel. The streets were still bright. I couldve taken the train but I chose to walk 20 mins and have this playlist by my side. It was pure bliss. I was like "so this is how it feels to live a daydream" ❤

I’m a 28 year old Black Man from the states, and I am absolutely floored by how beautiful Japanese city pop is… It’s changed my life in a way where I can feel the nostalgia of my childhood through the chords, yet feel something akin to new hope. Because I’ve never experienced this culture in such a way.

Back in 1982, I grew up in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Tokyo. Every day, this girl down the block and I would walk and talk together before going our seperate ways (since we went to different schools). One day, her dad was killed in a cross fire between gang rivals. Her family stayed with us for a while, and we became even closer friends. A few months later, her older brother heard the guy who killed their dad was in the neighborhood, so he took off to get revenge. She ran after him, and I ran after her. When we got there, her brother was getting beaten badly by the gang. I grabbed her and we hid behind the dumpster until they went away. I'll never forget her pounding heart while we held each other tight, full of rage and sorrow- while trying not to make a sound. A week later, the killer was caught. She and her family moved away shortly after. She gave me a letter sealed with a kiss. It said thank you for being there for me- and if we should meet again then hopefully we'll be able to tell each other how we really feel. Around some 5 years later- by the stroke of luck, I see her sitting in a park bench. Of course I got excited and was ready to confess how much I've loved her all this time. But shortly after, a guy comes and sits next her and they kiss. She had moved on- too much time had gone by. I couldn't even go say hi. So I go to a store and buy a pen and paper. I write to her how I feel and that I'm thankful we met, but it was just never meant to be. I give it to a stranger to give it her, wiping the tears down my cheek as I walked back home. 아키나는 80년대 후반 때가 가창력, 외모 모두 최고 전성기인듯 아키나 비브라토도 이 시절 완전히 폭발적이고. 시원하게 내지르는 거 들으면 진짜 감탄밖에
