Hand Drill, What's The Best Wood For A Fire Board?

Any wood, highly degraded, and pre-punk works great for a hand drill fire board. We've all heard that Trumpet Vine, Willow, Cedar, Mulberry, Cottonwood, Basswood, etc make great fire boards, but even they will work better if slightly degraded. Nice trick with the knife to hold the board. You never fail to teach me a little more every time..:)

Cottonwood board and a cottonwood spindle work very nicely. If you can get a yucca stalk for a drill that's the best. Bird's nest of dry grass works very well. Inner bark from a cottonwood is mosst excellent!
