Betty boop singing in Japanese is the cutest, sweetest thing I swear
  • @dancepiglover
What a surprisingly positive cartoon made in that time period!

Betty Boop was an inspiration to Osamu Tezuka, the Godfather of Manga. Without Betty, there would be no anime.

I'm Japanese and this is really nice! It's culture Appreciation! ありがと !!
  • @Kazemahou
Did anyone notice that when Betty looks through her goggles, the scene of Japan was a full model made of miniatures, carefully scroll-animated to give the effect of parallax? That was an amazing use of miniatures in an otherwise 2D cartoon!
  • @Butterstix2014
5:06 Wow! She even does the slight “ng” sound for ga in arigatou! A slight little detail, but one that shows how much research and care went into this cartoon!

I was expecting some racist shit, but I am very happy that it isn’t. And hearing Betty sing in Japanese is cute AF!
  • @mrmangatwins
Wow surprisingly not racist. Just super cute and she’s actually speaking ok Japanese especially for the time! The thought and consideration put into this!
  • She can pilot a plane, she can speak Japanese, she’s as diverse as Barbie! edit: congrats, you found a typo... -_- happy?

There's something just super sweet about this cartoon, just pure appreciation for Betty Boop's audience in Japan, no racist caricatures in the cartoon, in a time where racism in cartoons was incredibly normalized. It's really heartwarming, there was clearly so much love put into the cartoon, especially with translating the song into Japanese.
  • @DaintyBouquet
Ayo, her Japanese is spot on, what. Apparently, from what I’ve heard, this was dedicated to the large audience of Japanese folks who enjoyed watching Betty Boop. They asked some Japanese students for translations and everything. I dunno if that’s true, but that is actually just really cool

    この年代のアニメで、日本に行ったキャラクターが日本人とただ楽しく歌い踊って帰るって内容かなり貴重そう。 やっぱりベティは愛の象徴。
  • @elwoodziggurat
The Japanese she's singing is actually pretty accurate! It's the same lyrics in english but translated ^^ so cute, Betty-chan~
  • @gone7734
Betty Boop: sings in Japanese Literally every Japanese person who has seen this: impossible
  • @KaleidoSTARPH
I watch this as a kid in early or mid 90s and now watching this after 20+ years, its really surprising how the creator put so much respect to Japanese culture+people really ahead of its time where its full of racism in classic cartoons, and singing in Japanese is a surprising and beautiful gesture to her audience
  • 日本語歌詞のパート、字幕なしでも何て歌ってるかわかるくらい発音が綺麗で歌も変わらず綺麗だからやはりプロは凄い
  • @SoraTrace
This is qualifies more as anime than High Guardian Spice
  • @Grapethegreat
I'm genuinely surprised on how wholesome and sweet this is, considering the fact that cartoons were on the rise in 1920s-1930s and world war two was also active at the time so racism was very common even in cartoons, making this episode very heartwarming Edit (10/23/22): ok i got the history incorrect, but yeah this episode still warms my heart
