The Nguruvilu sounds like the ahuizohtl from Aztec mythology. It's a dog-like creature with a human hand on the end of its tail. It is said to drown humans by mimicking the cry of an infant to lure you into a deep body of water. The creature then eats your eyes, teeth, and your nails, and uses your dead body to lure more people to their demise.
