Rush - The Making of YYZ

Yes, in this special, for some reason they chose to play the audio of the song from the album over the shots of them playing the song, instead of letting us hear them actually playing it. Don't know why, but you're right, you're hearing the album version.

As a 40-year RUSH fan and an airline pilot, I think of the band every time I fly into Toronto.

30 years a fan. Never dawned on me that they call it, "Y-Y-Zed."

When I was in high school one of my best friend's father had a car audio sales/installation business. For a demonstrator, he took an 1980 Camaro and tricked it out with the most high end system he could devise. Two powered subs, 8 woofers, 8 mids and 6 tweeters. The trunk was covered with amps, crossovers, relay blocks...and the car had two alternators and two batteries. He entered it into many contest throughout the 80's. But this demonstrator was my friends daily driver. I spent many hours in that car. The reason I told this story was that to demonstrate the full capability, he used the Moving Pictures CD as the main sound track because it was recorded so well and engineered to perfection. YYZ played in the car was a religious experience! Every time I hear it now, I always think of that Camaro and how good it was.

This song never gets old. Geddy's has to be my favorite bassist of all time. That tone and plucking is so rad!

The part of YYZ that has always made me smile are the two quick little harmonics that Geddy picks off at the end of his run at 7:25, before they all dive right back into it... cheeky little sod.

RIP NEIL His death is a huge loss for rock music

Never have so few sounded as so many.

The greatest 3-piece band in history... and I only regret never seeing them live. Their greatness is only eclipsed by their humility....
