What It's Like Staying At Walt Disney World During Hurricane Ian

Published 2022-09-28
We arrived on Sunday to our vacation we had planned for quite some time. This was the first time that we did a split stay where the day we change hotels fell on the same day as the hurricane making landfall on Florida. I hit record throughout the day to see what it is like at Walt Disney World with a hurricane.

  • Have to really appreciate these Disney employees and employees at the stores/restaurants for being at work given that they have homes and families in the middle of the Ian mess. I think every single one of them deserve a huge bonus!!
  • @LilMinx13
Appreciate those employees in mascots for doing their best to cheer people up despite the odds #Salute
  • Props to Disney employees still trying to make kids and parents feel more light and at ease during this situation, that was great to see.
  • Gotta make the best of every situation good or bad. Glad y’all are doing this. Prayers!
  • Love how positive you all are. I mean, why get mad? Just roll with it. Makes for great stories one day. We are treasure hunters, but we LOVE Disney. Have been to Disney World a few times for the Star Wars races. That's crazy swimming in the rain. lol Thanks for the video. Seems like Disney was really nice to the guests.

I have to laugh that they’re walking with an open umbrella to go swim in the pool!😁☔️🏊🏻‍♀️ You got moved into a very nice 2br suite!👍🏼🌟

I like how you are making the best of the situation and staying positive. Stay safe! 🙏

We have been through four hurricanes while at Disney, including one at sea for our wedding cruise. (Yes, we have bad luck when it comes to travel). Two were back to back, within days, and one was a separate time going. Disney was wonderful!! Organized and informative, they made sure everyone had what they needed and were entertained the best they could. When the winds started really kicking, they pulled people into safe areas. They came with bagged meals to every hotel room door each day. Kids had treasure hunts in the hotel. Costumed characters read to kids. If you have to be stuck anywhere in a storm, Disney is it!
  • Thank you for that. I have often wondered what the average tourist situation was in such an event. I pray you and your family and all those there at the various parks and resorts remain safe.

Dangerous swimming when there is a storm, no matter if there is no thunder and in sunshine, lightning strikes in Central Florida. Water attracks them and strikes in the higher figures! You were lucky! 💗
  • Praying for the safety of your family as well as Florida residents! We live in Alabama and have been through hurricanes.🙏💞

I’m the last person who would watch this kind of video, (being anti-Disney) yet Autoplay had different plans for me while I brushed my teeth. And I’m not mad about it. Very interesting & informative information that you have created while also making it wholesome & fun for your beautiful family & myself. I will be binging today until TWD final season premieres tonite. I hope y’all had a wonderful time & thank you for restoring my faith in humanity & all that is still good in this crazy world. Be blessed! 🥰🇺🇸
  • Hanna’s gotta hustle in the Publix!!!😂 I was in Disney three weeks prior to the storm. Glad you all made it and were able to laugh about the circumstances.
  • @OmOnWheels
I’m glad you and your family had a nice time before the storm. It’s great the way you were keeping your children calm and busy. I hope you had a safe rest of your trip. kudos to the Disney employees for taking care of the visitors, esp the kids.
  • What a beautiful family! It is so heart-warming to see how all of you took everything in stride and made the best of the circumstances! Furthermore, while you were safe, you did not forget those who were in harms way! God bless your little family!!!

Thanks so much for sharing! I am a Floridian and it's been 20 yrs since we took our son to Disney World and although things are expensive (now probably 3X as much), Disney does provide pretty well for their "guests". My heart breaks for my fellow Floridians. This is the time for us all to come together.

I would have 1000% preferred going through the storm this way! It actually looked like as much fun as you can have, considering the situation and interruption of vacation plans. We had flooding, wind damage and power outages, but it definitely could've been worse so I can't complain.
