The $1,599.00 Fujifilm X100VI and the $1,046.95 Ricoh GR IIIx are two of the most popular digital point-and-shoot cameras for folks who aren’t looking to break the bank. They both come in a small package and have an APS-C sensor and a fixed focal length lens that can produce crisp images. In fact, these systems are so similar that, as a viewer, it can be hard to tell images from them apart (check out 1:29 in the video). But as a photographer, the experience they provide could not be more different.

For those who cannot decide to get which one of these (I mean, if you can and want. Both of them are backordered now and you need to pay extra for ready stock) The biggest advantage of the Ricoh GR is that it has a lens that contracts which will make the camera easily fit in you jeans pocket, while the Fuji won't but look classic and stylish. And as far as I can tell GR will produce sharper image than the 26MP X100V, one friend of mine got his X100IV and says even tough it's a 40MP sensor, the lens is not changed or updated and it cannot satisfy the high res sensor. But Fujifilm is like an Apple product since it works out of the box and it has much more filters (or film simulations, whatever) while the Ricoh GR literally only features 3 unique filters, namely Negative, Positive and Hi Contrast BW. Of course you can work out more filters base on the original ones, as Becca already showed you in the video. But that takes about 30 min to several hours to search for recipes on youtube or reddit and tweak the settings, depends on whether you are familiar with camera gears. I was a Fujifilm user and I switched to Ricoh and I'm more than happy with it, since I can just tuck it in my pocket and capture anything interesting I see in my day, sliently and blazing fast. Hope my experience and insights will help, cheers to Becca and those who read to the last line. :)
  • Thank you Becca. This is one of the best comparison videos I've seen yet on these two camera systems. Keep up the good work.

Your wording, script, editing, music and delivery of the information really makes your THE BEST camera reviewer out here. I'm a huge fan and cannot express enough gratitude that your videos exists. Also I'm a ricoh griii user :)

Great video (as always, Becca)! I lucked out and got my X100VI shortly after release. It’s my first point and shoot in a loooooong time, and been having a blast with it. Loved this comparison because I had never heard of the Ricoh GR before and was cool to learn about a new camera brand.

Wow! I just picked up a GRIIIx a week ago. This video has perfect timing for me. This comparison was definitely part of the equation.

Hear me out; a weekly podcast with Becca and Vjeran all about cameras. That would be the best! Great as always, Becca 😊

I find your videos so immediately enjoyable and informative. Thanks!

I've owned the GR3x for a little more than a year. It's with me if I'm outside my home. Been shooting since 1976. It didn't take long to become one with it. It's a quick, get the shot, camera. It's absolutely the best, get the shot camera, I've ever owned. It's not for "showing off". If that's your thing... go elsewhere. It's for candid shots. Subjects don't take it serious, but you do.

Very Interesting video, loved it. This is the type of content that I like to watch, I see you growing very fast in this platform. Great Job

I rented the GR3x and the x100v for my '1 Place 1 Camera' series and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the Ricoh's pics when I got them into Lightroom. I was NOT expecting such high quality from that thing. That said, I much preferred the experience of shooting with the Fuji. The Fuji's viewfinder made for the most enjoyable experience I've had with any digital camera. And seeing a little preview of the pictures with a pleasing film recipe right after taking them made it inspiring to take more. I'd love to buy an x100vi someday if I win the lottery 😂

Loved how you see how to find your camera - going with the fan base! love that idea. Great vid
  • @Jazzy_Waffles
Bought my GR IIIx a couple years ago, and absolutely love it! Love how sharp my photos turn out, how small and compact it is, and really, my own main two complaints, battery life and no manual focus. Best camera I’ve ever owned!
  • @jasonlee6663
Own the GRIIIx, and the best feature: size. After getting it, I never use my smart phone camera anymore because not only does it take better photos, but it's actually easy and convenient to carry around. The X100's are great cameras, and the weather proofing is a great feature, but it's definitely not a "pocketable" camera as a lot of commenters mentioned. I definitely agree with everything Becca said, though I do wish the video capture was a bit better. I never planned to use the camera for video, but when other cameras like the Sony RX100 are smaller (it's more compact than the GR), have an articulate screen, a flash, viewfinder, and can shoot 4K video, it does seem lacking. But that being said, I don't worry about "breaking" a GR, whereas with the RX, because of all the mechanical doohickeys, I would be a bit more hesitant to just cram it in my bag or pocket, which is a pretty convenient tradeoff.

"hi this is Becca with Full Frame at the Verge and today we are reviewing this two cropped sensor cameras" I had to do it. 😅

i was going to pick up a ricoh but ended up getting an x100v off someone nearby. it's my favourite camera of all time. used to have giant SLR's for concert photography, but over the years have been downsizing because i was tired of the bulk. i think these styles of camera are perfect
