My twin sister and I eat extremely healthy and IF but our husbands are diehard ultra processed food eaters and eat non-stop. When they get irritable we say, ā€œitā€™s the sugar talking.ā€ We laugh and they yell at us šŸ˜‚. Itā€™s so hard to convince someone to stop eating ultra processed foods and added sugarsā€¦it is a drug!

In 1978 when I was very young and so sad being obese in high school I came across a booklet I ordered from one of those supermarket tabloid newspapers. Long story short, I went cold turkey & 0 carbs each day for the 1st week. I felt horrible, but then the 2nd week I ate 10 carbs per day, the 3rd week I ate 20 carbs per day, and so on. I lost 75lbs over summer break easily & by the time I got to eating 70 carbs per day I ended up putting on 2lbs that week. So I learned to keep my carb intake at 70 per day if I wanted to maintain my new sleek & fit body. Afterwards anything processed & fast food tasted like horrible chemicals to me & still does to this day. I actually still have the booklet!

Like Hank Hill said: There's no sweeter taste than self discipline.
  • Sten Ekberg explains everything in a clear and understandable way. He never shames or lectures. He motivates. Thanks Dr Ekberg.

I convinced a number of people to stop drinking alcohol. No one listens to me when I advised them to give up sugar, cakes, etc. Many are insulted by my suggestion. One even gave me a massive box of chocolates and fruit mince pies as a Xmas present and wanted me to eat there and then. It was many years ago when I stood out as a sore thumb in social gatherings. I will choose social exclusion over poisoning myself just to fit in socially. Donā€™t care how rude and disrespectful I am, my health will rise above it all.

my biggest tip is that it starts in the supermarket. if you don't buy it you can't eat it!

Iā€™m sure you probably heard this many times before. But, as a radiologist and a fellow physician, I wanted to give you my heartfelt thanks for your video. I believe that you have extended my life with many additional good years. Based on your advice I cut out carbs and eat more fats, in only three months I lost 15-20 lbs, got my triglycerides down to 98 from 200, took my cholesterol down to 150 from 200 and my vldl down to 16 from 40. Plus, my hbh1c has gone down significantly. This in only 3 months! What I find disconcerting is how much bad advice is out there, when there is a whole body of evidence to show that what you recommend actually works. Big pharmaceuticals and food companies have no incentive to recommend what we really should be eating. And, until that changes, we will continue to have a metabolic crisis in this country. Itā€™s very sad. Nevertheless, I am on the right path and I use much of excellent advice you give. Cannot express my thanks enough for what you do!
  • Currently you have many dreams, but if one day you are not healthy, you only have one dream, which is to be healthy. Please appreciate your health now.

Excellent video. My husband and I are 3 months carnivore and feeling great. For me, I just had to go cold turkey on carbs. And yes I did suffer for about 2 weeks. I don't think this approach will work for everyone but it's how I needed to do it. I no longer crave sugar/carbs at all. My addiction to carbs wasn't to ice cream or other typical sweets. My addiction was to bread. I could not eat even one slice of any kind of bread without going on a bread eating frenzy. I still look longingly at toast with butter but it's emotional and not a physical craving. I tell myself "that's not food". I'll now add "you shall not pass". A friend of mine was an alcoholic. She's not anymore and can even go to a bar with friends and not drink. I ask her how she is able to maintain her sobriety. She told me that if the only thing in life she can't do is drink alcohol, she's fine with that. She focuses on the innumerable other things in life that she can experience and never focuses on what she can't do. I was impressed by this approach and it clearly works for her . If I can't have bread there is an abundance of healthy fats and proteins I can have and and they are delicious. I'm 76 and feeling wonderful without any addictions.ā¤
  • I was one of those (crazy) people who would skip dinner so I could have dessert, that's how addicted I was. Then, by accident, I started eating 1 meal a day. At first I ate whatever I wanted, no restrictions. Then here's what happened: 1. I completely lost my craving for sugar 2. I started craving good food, veggies, fruit, meat, nuts, etc. 3. My chronic indigestion and bloating went away 4. I wasn't hungry. In fact, I discovered that eating makes you hungry This was years ago, before IF was a thing, and I had plenty of push back from friends and family, but I didn't care. I felt great and it has been a perfect lifestyle choice for me. Of course, now everybody's asking me about it. šŸ˜„

Excellent Video! Former Sugar Addict here! It feels so liberating and empowering to no longer be held captive by Sugar! I can go to a work luncheon and pass by the dessert table without looking back! Sugar has lost its power over me! ā¤

Beating sugar cravings is so terrible I can't even describe it. I've always been athletic and ate healthy, but sugar has always been my weak spot. I was addicted to gummibears and chocolate. I am not eating any for 8 weeks straight now, but every time I pass them by in the supermarket, my mouth waters up like crazy and I would like to rip the bag open and eat them all right on the spot. It's terrible!

Iā€™m a sugar addict. I eat primarily meat and drink black coffee. No dairy. I havenā€™t had any sugar whatsoever since the new year started and Iā€™m so proud of myself. I increase my fat intake if I get a craving and thatā€™s been working for me. Still working on improving my quality of sleep. May need to ditch the coffee nextā€¦

Sugar is the only thing that I've ever developed a serious addiction to. I used to smoke cigarettes, and I quit 'cold turkey', with no problem at all. I consumed alcohol socially for many years, and I've quit that as well with no problem, but sugar is another matter completely. I actually went many years without consuming sugar, but I've let it back into my life and I don't like it at all. Working on this addiction is my number one goal this year.
  • @jsorensens2
OH MY GOD, this video is perfect! Iā€™m 8 mos on a keto and IF lifestyle. I reached my goal weight and metabolic health in 3 months. December messed me up. I allowed myself a ā€œlittleā€ of this and that, which rolled into the same behavior in January. I gained 5 pounds back (grr) but mostly I have made it harder on myself mentally. Tortilla chips & salsa are my kryptonite, so I canā€™t have them in the house (I just had to throw away 1/2 a bag and jar. I succumbed recently šŸ˜ž) It is very hard to eat keto/IF with a SAD eating husband and all of his ā€œfoodā€ around. So many temptations in the house. But I WANT to stay focused because I look and feel so much better. You nailed it. WANTING, FEELING and WHY are key. I LOVE that you told us about your ice cream addiction. Thanks for showing us that you are human, like the rest of us!!
  • @NovakBogoslav
Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, smoking, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not, in a couple of years they'll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.
  • @josefserf1926
It took me a lot longer than 2 weeks to reduce my sugar intake. The onset of early diabetes certainly helped.
