I've lived in NY all of my life. That being said, I have never seen crime and mental health issues so bad on the subways. It used to be that you would hear about terrible shootings/stabbings happening at 3am in very isolated areas. Now they happen all the time at 4pm in midtown.

I am trying to escape NYC after 25 years and am absolutely shocked at how overpriced everything is even in the dumpy areas way way way out from NYC. There is no cheap area to go to. People keep saying "move somewhere else" but I cannot find anywhere remotely affordable, even if it's under an airport 100 miles away. Way worse than people who haven't been looking know

NYer all my life. Still work In the city but commute now. It’s a sh@t hole! The stuff I see daily is disgusting and it’s gotten worse over the last 2 years. As far as expensive, Hell yeah!

From a native New Yorker: (1) Avoid certain neighborthoods that have a high crime rate, (2) make AT LEAST a six figure salary per year or have side investments, & (3) DON'T be poor/low income. Those are THE THREE rules for living in New York.
  • Thank you so much for your clearheaded response to the crime issue in nyc. So many "new york youtubers" have either moved away or turned their channels into panic magnets. I was relieved to hear you break it down the way you did.

My dad finally visited me. I got to take him around my favorite places in the city and where I live. His experience of the people here was vastly better than what the media spewed at him. It was an awesome reunion!

I have been watching your videos ever since I booked my trip in November, I arrive in a couple of weeks and after seeing so many negative videos about NYC it made me start to worry but this channel always gets my excitement back for my trip. Truly the best NYC tourism YouTuber out there

I just returned from a trip to NYC with my aunt and sister. Not once did we ever feel in danger or scared. It seemed very safe to us. We did a few things that you have mentioned to do while visiting and really enjoyed them! Thanks for the tips!!
  • Thank you so much for responding to my comment 😊 I went to NY since posting, and was just more focused than usual keeping an eyes on my surroundings while walking around. I felt safe just being more aware.
  • @therealhannahlee
Your take on the crime situation was so level headed. Hopefully it gives people some clarity, and eases their fear when they visit. This was a great video!

Although moved back recently, this is home no matter where I've been. Every place has pros & cons, just a ? of what routine you have and be safe in all you do 👍🏽
  • @Gerry2936
Thanks for answering the question about Prospect Park or Central park. Was also nice to meet you on the Brooklyn promenade. Thanks for your videos, they have been of great value for our visit. Keep up the good work!
  • @alexpagano4025
Even the elevated post-pandemic crime level is nothing compared to the NYC I grew up in during the 1980s and early 90s. Media hype is a real thing.
