I am 72 years old and have severe osteoporosis due to genetics in my family. Grandmother, mother, aunt all from the same side of the family. I have looked into taking AlgaeCal in the past because of their proven reputation and success with this type of calcium, but the price is just not affordable for me even with the discount. It's discouraging that something that can be so effective for so many people is so costly to the point where it limits many people from being able to purchase and benefit from this supplement. If companies really want to help people then they need to stop charging excessive amounts of money for their products.
  • @suzanyoga2942
I mentioned AlgaeCal to my endocrinologist and she immediately jumped in and said it doesn’t work. She said she didn’t approve of the studies for many reasons including that there were no placebos as part of the studies. She said my bones will not get better and that I’ll have them this way for life and the drugs she offers will prevent them from getting worse. She agreed the drugs can be harmful but of course she explained what you have said, that you take them for a certain period then stop for a period… She did say AlgeCal is a good supplement yet it won’t build bone. I was so upset and frustrated. How can doctors have completely opposite views of studies done? Sometimes it’s hard to trust anyone. Also I read about other products which have almost identical ingredients to AlgaeCal for much less money. I’m so confused and frustrated.
  • Calcium gets in heart valves too! I'm an echocardiography tech. I had a 50 something year old patient recently with significant valve calcification. I asked about calcium supplementation to which she replied, yes, for years! Doesn't prove causation, but it gave me the willies.
  • I am 62, have severe OP but improved my scores of 6% in my back in past 2 years, and 7% in my hip and femoral neck in past year. With calcium citrate but a very serious regimen of exercise (weights and resistance) twice a week. I have a trainer. Do a lot of squats and jumping. I would never do this alone. I also swim and go for big walks with my dog every day. My trainer pushes me like crazy. I am now nearly in the osteopenia range in my femoral neck and am osteopenia in my hip. My AP spine has a T score of -2.9 down from -3.3 2 years ago. I am building bone!! I am so excited. I just started AlgaeCal with Strontium but feel a bit nervous about taking it if it has lead. What should I do, dr. Doug? I just discovered you recently but am already addicted to your videos! Will take the Master Class soon.
  • @HandsSMF
Thank you so much for this informational video. I have been looking to change my bone health supplement because a lot of online stores have stopped offering it. I have been looking into AlgaeCal, and I like what I see. Yes, it is on the expensive side, but if it helps build bone so I don't need to take other medication, I am all for it. I will definitely share this video with others who need to know. Thank you again!
  • @krisgasparini816
I read in several studies Strontium has a larger atomic weight than calcium (38 vs 20), which causes it to attenuate X-rays more strongly than calcium. Hence the readings on the DEXA scan appear artificially inflated with bone density looking better than is the case. what is your thinking on this?
  • @user-qk8wc1lt1x
Thanks again for another informative video. I’m so glad you brought up the contamination factor. I read that Consumer Labs felt there was too high a lead level in Algae Cal for them to recommend it. They even retested and still could not recommend it. Not sure how important Consumer Labs is but do you know about those particular studies on lead levels in Algae Cal? Thanks so much for all the great information you provide.
  • @greendragon9
This is huge. Thanks for your thorough review. This clears up much confusion.
  • @6198mark
Hi Dr. Doug, long time fan. This is your first video that has me a bit concerned about your advice. Many people below have asked about the wisdom of using a supplement with Strontium which can artificially improve DEXA results leading one to believe the bones are stronger than they are. There are more thumbs up on those questions than any other comments. Strontium seems to be the "magic" ingredient in Algeacal. I really think this needs to be addressed fully and in good faith. I don't want to be thinking my bones are fine and then surprise... broken hip and slow death.
  • Talking to my cardiologist about calcium is on my list. Thank you for this info!
  • @westysutube
Been looking for someone like you for a long time. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your in depth information. I’m registered for your free master class later this week.
  • @sheila7814
I was just at the health store yesterday researching calcium. Great video ….. thanks for answering some new questions I ran across like MCHC, etc.
  • @cpav7556
PLEASE answer the comment on strontium below saying. "several studies Strontium has a larger atomic weight than calcium (38 vs 20), which causes it to attenuate X-rays more strongly than calcium. Hence the readings on the DEXA scan appear artificially inflated with bone density looking better than is the case."
  • @ginarobinson9078
I've been on Algae cal plus strontium for a year. I have my bone density coming up in 2 weeks ....eager to see the results !!
  • I've heard of AlgaeCal and saw it a lot on Facebook. Wabted to try when i 1st was duagnosed with Osteopena. But, I was busy caring for my Husband a 100% Disabled Veteran ..its time consuming for sure. I'm now diagnosed with Osteoporosis! Saw a new Dr today, my Endocrinologist wanting me to take the Prolia injection soon. I declined for now to resesrch more... i want to start this Algeacal, a PT program to learn some weight bearing exercises...and watch more on a better diet! I have a 5K charity walk planned the day before my 70th birthday this month. One of my Daughters and Grandson plan to walk with me... then ill make some decisions about the Prolia injection! My Mother is 92 and very bent over! Scares me. My calcium score on a Total Body Scan was almost 2,000! I glad you talked about that too! I will consider a consult! I don't know of any bone specialist near me...who treat Osteoarthritis! Just South of Houston! Texas cowgirl 🤠
  • @flipgen5113
Thanks again Dr Doug. Another great content. And I stayed till the end and that means a lot to me!
  • @bluewaters3100
I haven't been using a calcium supplement but have been taking everything else recommended here. I am 71 and have some osteopenia in my hips. Recently I took a bad fall and broke my wrist. When I went to the surgeon he said I needed surgery or would have a reduction in my wrist movement. Because I was in good health he said I would be a good candidate for surgery. It was amazing how well my wrist healed and in a short time. After seeing your video I will be adding the algaeCal..thank you.
  • @deanalgaecal2577
Dr. Lucas, Thank you for having the integrity to change when you learn something new. So many health "experts" are still defending indefensible positions.
  • Must compliment you for your patience to do these videos for free listening. Long but very informative. Gracias .👌👌👌👌
