Introduction to DBAs
------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, welcome back to the channel. Starting a business involves many tough decisions, and one of the hardest is choosing a name. In today's video, we'll discuss what a DBA (doing business as) is and the most convenient way to set one up. A DBA is used when a company's business name differs from its legal name.

For example, my LLC for a tutoring business expanded into selling digital printables for teachers. Using a DBA allowed me to create a business name that better represented my products without the cost and hassle of changing my whole business name or starting a second LLC. This way, my LLC provides limited liability protection for all my operations.

Do You Need a DBA and Trademarks
------------------------------------------------

Do you need a DBA? It depends on your needs. A DBA can enhance marketing and branding by giving a distinct name to different business activities. However, it doesn’t offer exclusive rights to the name. For nationwide protection, consider trademarking your business name. A trademark provides legal rights and prevents others from using the same or similar name, logo, or phrase.

If you plan to expand your business or sell products nationwide, a trademark can help avoid customer confusion and protect your brand from copycats. It also gives you the legal power to take action against infringements.

Setting Up a DBA and Tailor Brands
------------------------------------------------

Every state has a different process for setting up a DBA, but generally, it involves checking your state’s requirements, ensuring the name isn’t already taken or trademarked, and filing the necessary paperwork. Some states may require you to publish a notice in a local newspaper.

Tailor Brands can streamline this process by providing guides on how to start a DBA in your state. They offer extensive business services, from forming an LLC to marketing and managing your business. They have different plans, including a free Lite Plan for DIY enthusiasts and more comprehensive plans for those needing additional support.
