Pelvic Health Physical Therapy with @movewithDrChris | Ep. 12

Published 2024-06-19
In today's episode, I discuss pelvic health physical therapy with pelvic health physical therapist, Dr. Christine Pieton. This area of musculoskeletal health is not understood well by most medical and rehabilitation practitioners and there is a great deal of misinformation that exists amongst the general population. This episode helps clear up much of these questions and can help you decide as to whether or not seeing a pelvic health specialist physical therapist would help you with any low back, pelvic or hip pain symptoms that you may be experiencing.

  • Thank you for doing a segment and bringing attention to pelvic health! It took me a long time to find someone familiar with what I have (in my geographical location) and even my OB wasn't fully familiar with what my physical therapist does! Thank you again!

Thanks dr. Tom for your book and encouraging me to do strength and resistance training at age 61 😅 It has significantly helped me and i have been faithful in my exercises! Since this dr. Chris also mentioned it, i am glad I've already been doing it and will continue to Lord willing. ❤ hi Kirsten ❤

Wow. This was super interesting and new to me. I was thinking about all the symptoms I've noticed in my body and never knew what was the cause. I could relate to some of them for sure. It also made me think of my mom. She's 84 and has total urinary incontinence. Bladder lift surgery was recommended but because of her weight she was told that she would have to have her friends/ family lift her onto the operating table because the hospital wouldn't do it...something like that. She refuses out of embarrassment to do that. So she's super discouraged that this is her life til she dies. For other reasons, she is pretty much bed bound so it just seems hopeless. I wish i could help her😢. Sorry this is so long. I appreciated this episode as always. ❤

I do have a question. Do you think potential patients are too hesitant to be examined/assessed by a pelvic floor PT that they just forego seeking treatment? I used to have literal dreams/ nightmares about getting pap smears. Actually getting one was awful for me. Not so much the pain, but the "invasion" and fear. I just wondered if that was the case in her practice. It's not your typical PT!😮

My BIL has pudendal neuralgia. It's been quite a while and he's seen specialists, PTs, etc, and so far nothing seems to resolve the issue. Are there any other recommendations he could look into? He used to be an avid cycler.
  • There is info on this on TikTok. Does she know the woman that has the BUFF MUFF METHOD

This seems VERY involved and maybe a little hit or miss at the beginning when you're trying to do the assessment and figure out treatment. I could be wrong! It seems like it would require lots of visits to her which would be costly. 💵
