I really wanna see that "YEET racing" sailboat in action
  • @themadscientest
At least the crash was good, total rapid unplanned disassembly.
  • I cannot stress enough how much I want to see that thing fly with a custom size powdered sugar rocket That has a 20 or 30 second burn time
  • @DaDoc
This is the type of stuff that I always wanted to do as a kid
  • Your drone launch system should be moving forward so there's air moving across the wings before release. You'll gain stability that is lost when you drop it while hovering still. It doesn't have to be enough for lift, just enough for the flow to be established across the lifting surfaces in the right direction.

You need to revisit this with an airframe utilizing a rearward swept wing.

  • I would really like to see him revisit this project with some tweaks. I'm pretty sure the center of thrust was too high above the center of mass, which caused the plane to nose down violently every time the rockets ignited. I feel like if he had the rocket motor more centered along the length of the body (like where the propeller motor mounted originally) then it would have been easier to control and less jarring if there was a delay from the rocket ignition. It would likely take a bit of reinforcement to the internal structure immediately forward of the rocket motor, but I really would like to see the plane fall apart the way he wanted it to, rather than a full throttle nosedive into the ground. And yes, I know that there are plenty of aircraft that have their engines either way above or way under their center of mass. This is pretty common for some aircraft like private jets, however, they have comparatively low thrust/weight ratios when put side by side to solid rocket motors. They also have the benefit of being throttled up/down on an as needed basis. Solid rockets on the other hand are full throttle until depleted, and if they have a high enough thrust/weight ratio, any deviation from center will completely dictate the direction of your craft.

9:00 you don't need a balanced aircraft, just use a software update like the Boeing MCAS, bro. Works perfectly, every time.

I rewatch this video occasionally. It's just that good.
