by literally, explicitly, “asking for it”, he makes listeners uncomfortable. they know it is an incongruous & strange statement that no one would actually say. the raw discomfort created proves that no one is ever “asking for it”—that phrase is just a way of silencing victims. that’s why the song is powerful.

Today this concert turns 30 years old. Immortal creativity. 13 December 1993 I love Nirvana endlessly

People who are mad at this song just don’t understand it.

It’s crazy how people like Kurt in the 80s were considered as weirdos. Now look at him.

Never heard this live version before. Almost as good as the cassette.

As a rape survivor, there's just something very comforting about this song, i don't know how to put it into words, i think it might have to do with Kurt's delivery, like you can tell the intent of this song in his voice, he was a beautiful man, still sad we lost such an amazing soul.
  • When Kurt and Dave both go into screaming Rape Me together at the end is one of my all-time favorite music moments. When I watched this live on MTV as a kid that part had me going fucking bananas in my room!🤘

I f*ing love this song. It's so powerful. I don't ever want to be living under the shadow of fears again. Some people are just shameless and it is their fault not mine. Thank you Kurt, thank you. Rape and sexual harassment should be discussed, not concealed.

I never thought that a show about a dysfunctional rich American family running a media empire will remind me of this track. :)

He’s so beautiful with the wind blowing through his hair

Nobody has a phone or tries to take a selfie or a video. They enjoy THE moment, that they will forever remember
  • I was raped by a doctor when I was very young. I was born with a birth defect, and for 51 years the world has continually beaten me down. I love this song.

Kurt died before youtube existed but he still has almost 5 mill subs
  • @xplatypus516
Kurts voice is so soothing and nearly flawless for a live performance
  • I've always felt this song is about being strong enough to endure all the pain you have to go through life. Something like: give me all your hate, give me all your abuse, I can take it - You might hurt my body, but you won't break my soul.
  • I would like that Kurt were alive to tell him “thank you so much for this song” because this song gives me strong and makes me feel so powerful and secure when I remember that my own mother rape me when I was 5 years old, stills hurting but now I can live with that. Thank you so much Kurt Cobain, thank you for gifted us all of your songs and make history in the music, you are and always will one of the bests 🖤
