I think you guy's might have missed part of laios's dialogue. Laios said that after he left home AND until Falin met Marcille, she probably ate her meals alone. We already learned in a past episode that Falin used to send letters to Laios while she was in magic school about how she was having a really hard time and we also saw that people at school kind of just ignored her. Her letters to Laios only got happy once she met Marcille. I also think it's implied here that their parents weren't around very much and that after Laios left it was likely she also had meals by herself at home as well. This isn't spoilers for future stuff but in the manga, while talking about his backstory to Senshi, Laios makes a comment that Falin still keeps in touch with their parents but he doesn't (trigger cut that part out tho). We saw in his dream from the Nightmare episode that he doesn't think highly of their parents and we learn in this episode that he pretty much hated their whole village. I also personally think that Falin absolutely wanted to go with Laios and not just because he was in dire straights. We saw in the Marcille/Falin flashback episode that Falin was always lagging behind in classes cause instead of studying she spent a lot of her time in that dungeon reading and writing letters to Laios. We also saw her desire for adventure in the flashback after the dragon fight. To be honest I think she's a very impulsive person and as soon as she saw her beloved brother again and a chance at adventure she took it cause she didn't care for school anyways. She probably wasn't even considering Marcille's reaction. Falin is very similar to Laios in many ways and they are siblings so!

"Eat or be eaten, for eating is the sole privilege of the living". Welcome to the real main theme of this story: eating.
  • @isadorae9551
yeah the way Laios tells their backstory is fascinating bc at no point he lies, but we see from the scenes that there's more to them. He talks about his sister's pain even though he acknowledges he can't really assume all she was thinking & talks about his own frustration with the world, but not about how Falin CLEARLY was going bc she was worried abt his state. And it's not even out of shame, I believe these things genuinely aren't visible to him, the same way he had to be told that Shuro was being polite before. Falin is also interesting bc we have her whole backstory and the reason she followed Laios, but we don't know how she felt about all that happened to her, not really. In fact Laios might be more right than we think bc he was the one getting her sad letters, plus the only context he had was that she was living her life in the academy just fine and still chose to leave it all behind for him - in a way, she chose her brother's safety over herself. So he's with her until she finds someone to be with, who she wants to be even more than with him. But maybe Falin is thinking the exact same- and is just as reckless as Laios lol, but they did manage to build something together.

I'm glad you caught that Laios wasn't exactly a reliable narrator. There's an extra comic of the part where Laios meets Falin at the magic school but from Falin's POV it's actually horrifying - she saw her own brother looking like a walking skeleton and thought that if she didn't come with him, she'll never see him alive again. She made her choice right there to go.
  • @aronth
In terms of maturity, Chilchuck is actually the oldest. If you make the whole crew tall-man their ages will be like Laios 26 Marcille 16-18 Senshi 30s Chilchuck 40s Izutsumi 17
  • @ytchen6494
I would say your analysis in the end is actually accurate in some degree. NO big spoiler here, only more details about what we see in anime so far. There’s a extra official book called “ Adventurer’s Bible” The story is, Liaos left home early because he want to earn money and live somewhere else with Falin. To save her from being bullied by villagers. But the magic school turned out to be a better place than they expected ( Falin admitted that school wasn’t 100% her place but she did have fun time there) instead it’s Laios’ side didn’t work out well. When homeless Laios showed up, Falin didn’t come along with Laios because she merely want to visit the dungeon, because she felt „If I don’t follow him right now, I don’t feel like I will be able to see him again.“ So yes, she worried about Laios. She followed him willingly, but back in school she wasn’t in a dead end either. (Throughout the manga panel we even see some tiny flashbacks of Falin wielding a mace saving Laios’ ass from other adventurers and Kelpie😂)

Poor Marcille. She went through it during these 24 episodes. So many crazy things happened to all of them, but I feel like she was on the receiving end of most of it (seems like the craziest stuff almost always happened to her). I will miss seeing her as a half-foot... cutest Short Queen ever! XD P.S. 19:50 - I think it's this, 100%. Laos was in really bad shape when he went to check on her. I do think she was isolated and very unhappy for the year by herself in the village, and most of her time at magic school, but I think she went with him because she was just really worried about her brother. I also think he was so weak and out of it that he couldn't even force her to go back if he wanted. He was on his last legs. I think he went to check on her because knowing she was safe and doing okay is the only thing he had left motivating him. I think he just went to see her because he was literally losing motivation to keep going and needed to see she was okay, perhaps even thinking he might not be able to keep going on (and wanted to be sure his lil sis was okay even if something happened to him). She could sense how desperate he was and didn't even question going with him because he clearly needed help. I don't think he wanted it at all or even expected it. I think you are right that he feels super guilty and like a failure as an older brother on many levels because of everything that's happened.
  • As long as they have some kind of meat to make up for it, they can reconstitute a human body. Even the dragon meat would have worked out fine, the problem is that Marcille assumed that the dragon's soul was no longer present, maybe it persisted due to it being a mad mage special monster. That fact combined with using the dungeon's magic to power the spell caused her to accidentally pull the dragon's soul into Falin's body along with it's flesh. In fact right after the revive if you notice Falin has one eye closed and is holding her neck, the two major injuries the dragon suffered! Now in order to properly revive her they have to 'remove' the dragon from her by using digestion to destroy the meat's 'identity'. I doubt it will be perfect, but like Laios said it's the best plan they have at the moment.
  • There is an interesting detail. When Marcille is being pulled by Laios and Izutsumi from two sides, Marcille cried in pain, and Laios let go first, even though he's probably stronger than Izutsumi in a dwarf body. This is because he doesn't want to hurt Marcille.
  • @ZolDubs
Falin wasn't doing fine, she was also rejected for the way she acts. It was already shown that Falin and Laios didn't fit in their village or any other place. Falin only started to enjoy the school after befriending Marcille but even then she didn't cared for the school and went with her brother as that was a bigger priority. To be more clear, the Touden siblings are both autistic (it is the more fit conclusion as the author already had another manga with an autistic character and it is depicted really well... That's what i have been seeing as many autistic people felt seen with this characters, me included). Nice that you remembered that they can use animal meat to recover body parts. Season 2 confirmed so i hope you all enjoy it to the very end.
  • @highlycalm
I really enjoyed your analysis of the tid bit of backstory we got of Laios life.
  • @pbgamer25
I decided to watch this show when it was on ep 17-18 i think...it's amazing how, despite not having being following this since ep 1, it still hits me that is over. I've became fond of these characters. Well, time to jump into the manga. From what i've heard, they have enough content to make another season of 24 eps (manga ended last year)
  • @alexoxotv
marcille collaborates the part of the story where falin struggled in school socially and a little academically. she did great in the make a mini dungeon in dirt jar but marcille says falin didn't have other friends besides her and would rather do her own thing than go to class, falin was a free spirit & didn't mess w the rigid structure of academia. I think y'all also forgot to mention the part where laios says until falin finds someone that wants to hang out with her all the time, he will. He's basically going to be there for her until she gets a man bc he doesn't want her to be alone again. eating meals alone can be very depressing to some people
  • @Madison-ur2qn
I like how this episode helps you do Senshi age math for episode 23. If 26=65, then 36 must be something like 14-15
 that’s how ‘old’ he was
Also- there IS a page out there with that moment when Falin leaves school with Laios from her perspective. I forget if it’s in the manga itself, or an extra like a day dream hour
but Falin’s perspective really is interesting to me.

    - Well this was Fantastic with this being an animated adaptation of Ch. 1 - 52 & even greater news is that there will be a Season 2 (TBA) which if we get another 24 episodes then that will finish up the rest of the manga, but it would also be great if we got shorts based on the extra chapters - The first Gargoyle was transformed into the Bocca della VeritĂ  or the Mouth of Truth which in legend if anyone that put their hand in it will be bitten off if they told a lie
  • @sirbig8292
Actually, yeah. I never thought about it that way, but you are totally right with your theory about Laios getting his sister to join him. Maybe he didn't realize what he was doing (though I am certain he was at least hopeful that she would tag along if he were to visit her) and if she had actually said no, I'm certain he wouldn't have tried to force her. But with everything the series tells about Falin, there is no way she would have let Laios go alone, even if she hated the idea of exploring dungeons /which doesn't seem to be the case) She has kind of a saviour complex and seems to think that her own wellbeing and happiness is worth less than that of the people around her (examples being her exorcizing spirits through the dangerous moves of hugging zombies, accepting Shuro's proposal even though she didn't have feelings for him, sacrificing herself for the rest of the party and, once she was to back to life, she was uncomfortable with the fact that the party did all this "just" to revive her. As if she wasn't worth saving even though she willing to throw her life away, if it means saving others.
  • @GabrielFreezers
Falin, She had been starving all this time because her current dragon form needed more energy to move, but she currently couldn't eat the food that bigger monsters usually eat and can only eat berries because she only has one mouth. It's sad to see her so desperate that she wants to eat walking mushrooms, aren't dragons carnivorous?
  • I know I probably would eat dragon flesh that was once part of my sister to save her but I would definitely have to think about it real hard
  • @dungeonmaster16
on party logic like why chilchuck runs/hide: ryoko when making this besides inspiration from crpg games like pathfinder or baldurs gate its also old dnd or today its osr (old school revival) games like mausritter, knave 2e, dungeon crawl classics and such where your hp is LOW like literally at creation start with only 1 hp and highest is at best a 6. enemies hit for avg 4+ damamge so you have good chance to die right there. worry about character? pft with how osr games work just roll a new one in about 5 mins, dead serious. hence leds to the classic four party comp: fighter/melee, cleric/healer, rogue/specialist and wizard/caster. fighter is decked out in armor, high hp and can draw attention. cleric is mid line with healing magic and buffs to keep party going, wizard can blast foes from afar and find hidden magic auras. rogue is to hide and look for weakpoints while also deal with traps hidden.
