Where do Minecraft’s sounds come from? Everywhere! Between a toilet paper roll, actual dolphins, and a grown man burping into a microphone, our Studio Audio Director Samuel Åberg will try anything to find the perfect sound. He’s also joined by Audio Designers Sandra Karlsson and Tom Koselnik Olovsson, who share some unique insights into the team’s working process. Stay tuned for a timed challenge where Samuel must recreate a series of specific Minecraft sounds!

Big thanks to Ulf Olausson at Foleyworks!

still love that the ghast sounds were just one of the devs messing with his cat while it was trying to sleep

Minecraft sounds are literally the most satisfying noises. I could just listen to any block. Most games just have shooting or loud. Minecraft is relaxing.

The fact phantoms are warped sounds of baby crying makes sense because it's such an alarming and obnoxious sound that forces you to do something about it. I can't believe I haven't connected the dots about the Creeper spectrogram image. It really sounds like typical spectrogram sonification.

For the record, being the sound effect guy takes some pure wide imagination to make a sound work...

2:12 That reminded me a bit of how Mufasa's roar was made, just a dude screaming into a trashcan while making silly faces plus a bit of sound editing.
