The Minecraft Survival Guide Season 3 continues!
This tutorial will show you where to find iron ore in both mountain biomes and caves. First, we explore our nearby cherry mountain, with some helpful tips for walking on powder snow. We encounter goats and pillager patrols, then bring back enough iron for our first iron tools and a shield.
Then we explore a cave, using torches for navigation, and gather more iron, copper, and coal. We have our first Enderman encounter, spot some other useful resources, and return with enough iron to get geared up with a full suit of armour!

A note on combat in Bedrock edition: don't bother with axes. They do less damage but still use double durability.
  • @PGPetch
Pix getting both carrot and potato from zombie drops and not having to search for village to get one is very lucky.

17:01 Bedrock Combat: The axe doesn’t do as much damage in Bedrock as it does in Java, even when a crit hit is landed. Swords are still worth the material in the early game for that reason. We also don’t have a sweeping attack on swords, so no chance to cause damage to other nearby entities/mobs. However, we still don’t have a ‘recharge’ meter for attacks, so spam clicking is an effective combat move, lol. Also, zombies on Bedrock have a slightly further reach I believe, and skeletons on hard difficulty basically have player seeking arrows, they never miss 😢

Every episode of yours feels like a hug. So comforting. Thank you.

I'm something of a veteran Minecraft player, so I'm not learning anything new here, but these episodes are just so lovely to listen to. You have a wonderful speaking voice, Pix, and the way you explain things is very easy to understand. I've taken to watching these as something nice to relax to, it's just a very chill and calming atmostphere, and I really appreciate the slow approach to the game you've got going. All too often, when I start a new Minecraft world, I'll speedrun through all of this early game stuff so I can defeat the ender dragon to get an elytra and get started on my big redstone farms and build projects as soon as possible. I forget to enjoy the early game, and this is very much reminding me to. Thanks Pix~

8:09 "bring back more coal than you brought with you" I never thought about it that way, but this is very useful advice.

I loved the little reference to Paul Soares Jr. The OG Survival Guide! I learned how to play Minecraft from him, and see you very much as his spiritual successor.
  • The simplicity and utility of torch placement as navigational aid is simply exquisite. In large chambers you can also help yourself to maintain orientation in the center of the room by placing your torches not on the floor but on the side of a block (place one if you need to) so that passing the block on the side with the torch, to your right orients you back to the entrance (basically build a miniwall and apply the rule)

A few things that might be worth mentioning in a future episode would be your use of resource packs, as people might otherwise wonder why their shield looks different (covers more of their screen as compared to what I assume is the VanillaTweaks "Lower shield" resource pack). It might be helpful to mention other useful debug keybinds such as "F3 + H" to display advanced tooltips (showing exact durability)
  • Can I say I really appreciate you telling us the little differences between Java and Bedrock Edition. Like coordinate. This is going to get me to watch this entire series. Because in the past I was turned off by Java only Minecraft Survival Guide when it conflicted with bedrock and I didn't know the difference back then. So you get a huge thumbs up from me.
  • Anyone wondering how Pix has durability information for his tools, all you have to do is press the keyboard keys F3 and H at the same time and it will turn on durability info for all items that can wear down and eventually break over time. 😊

Its nice to hear you mention Paul, he really was that Minecraft dad that taught us everything we needed to know that time which seems so far away now

Pix got all three rare zombie drops in one episode!!?? Bro's got more luck than a leprechaun on St.Patricks day

It's crazy to think just how long ago PSJ started the whole surviving in Minecraft craze.

What a great intro to minecraft series! Most I've don't get that detailed, assuming the player knows it all. This is great for those just starting out. And for those of us who have played a long time.. well, there seems to always be something new to learn. Thanks for the great vid.

15:38 this feels like a nice moment to talk about blocked chests. Remember that chests open from the top, so putting any full block on top of it will prevent you from accessing the chest. Exceptions to this are blocks that are not "full", like stairs, slabs or other chests (chests are smaller than blocks). If your base has very little space and you struggle with blocked chests it is also great to remember that barrels are a thing in minecraft, that they have the same space a chest has and that they do not open from any direction in particular, so you can always access them no matter what!
  • @Kroooza
Even as an experienced player I learn quite a bit each episode
  • I’m glad you covered the use of leather boots to walk in snow early on; that’s advice I could have used for my first mountain climb in 1.18. Another tip for surviving in powdered snow in case you don’t have leather boots available is to use your shovel to try digging your way out, but because you can’t orient yourself if you’re buried up to your head you’ll need to be more careful lest you dig yourself into deeper snow or through a hole in the ground.
  • I just did my own iron collecting trip and went the high mountain way as opposed to the caving one. This was a perfectly timed episode! Thank you!
