My Vitamix Test - Black Particles Issue

Lately people have been discovering these tiny black particles/flakes/specs from doing the clean water test on their 64 oz containers. It seems to be coming from the blade assembly. Call Vitamix and they have no idea what it is. We don't know if it's safe or not. I have gotten a replacement contain from Vitamix but that still had the same issues. For experimentation, I bought 3 brand new Vitamix all with 64oz containers from different dates (3-14, 4-14, 6-14, 7-14) and tested them. They all have the same issue. I really like my Vitamix and want to keep it. I really hope Vitamix resolve this ASAP.

Thank you for sharing. I have Vitamix 750 Professional I have tested the 1-10 speed and all the preset and I don't have the black particles! I  also travel with S30 Personal one and I tested that one and nothing. But again, thanks for testing and showing us.
  • Thanks for the tests. Another you tuber has shown that the plastic has bpa in them. Want my stainless steel vitamix back
  • I really appreciate your video!  I have been comparing Vitamix models and thought this issue related just to the 750 model, per some reviews on Amazon.  So I was going to go with the 6500 instead.  (Actually bought it and will now return.)  Now that I see it is an issue with various models, think I'll wait on Vitamix until this issue is resolved.  Very helpful to have the blade dates and easy to see black spec results.

I clean mine regularly....got one teeny tiny black spec. I survived the teflon frying pans from the sixties....I think I will be alright.

They are because of Teflon. Vitamix has changed their jar design. I bought mine few weeks ago but Jar was made in April 2015 so i believe it still has it. I am thinking about returning it back to the store I bought it from and then may be trying out Blendtek or may be directly order it from Vitamix.

I'm so happy I saw this video. Spent several days comparing blenders and was ready to buy vitamix today, :-( Thanks!!!

I've seen this before as well but I've noticed that it is with mainly the slimmer jars from the 6300 and 5200 machines, both 64 and 48 oz jars. I've tried this test many times with a 7500 New Gen Vitamix jars and so far I have not seen any black particles. Maybe its just an issue with the slimmer jars and not the lower wider jars for the 7500 models I talked to a Vitamix agent during a live demo about this issue and he did this same water and white plate test many times with 4 of his 6300 VM jars, 2 64 oz and 2 48 oz jars and we didn't see any black spot particles in the water. Does anyone think that maybe the jars have to be used a few times? And if so then how many times?   As for Blendtec I've seen very few black spots but the main problem with Blendtec is their leaky gaskets. We've torn up many gaskets before on the Blendtec and I don't see them fixing this anytime soon since they think their blenders are perfect as is.  Vitamix needs to fix this problem very quick, otherwise I don't see why people should buy Vitamix.....or Blendtec for that matter.

I watched your video. Thanks. Just tested my Viamix, 8/14 blades. No specs noticed. I tested three times. I have the lower profile chubby jar. 750 pro.

Just tested out my Apr 2011 unit and it has tons of black specks. It is not just the newer ones unfortunately. I have messaged them and am awaiting their reply. Thank you for the heads up. I will be sad without my VM.

I guess we are buying the Blendtec afterall.  I have been trying to decide between the two and had finally decided on the Vitamix - but this creeps me out.
  • @davida8022
Although the issue has supposedly been fixed, the 'black-specks' are inert, not a problem.

Do people really use these containers without running soapy water and maybe even run some ice through it before using something like this? I sure wouldn't. And didn't when I bought mine 15 years ago. And, while I would not want a steady diet of whatever is coming off of new bearing/shaft seals, is a bit of it it really any worse than the filthy air we breath every day or the not very BPA-free water bottles we use. Put in perspective, this hardly seems to be an alarming issue.
  • @tkdguy5494
Huh, I had never heard of this. I'm going to have to test it out in my Vitamix.
  • We didn't believe what we saw during our test a few weeks ago, but yes, these black flakes / particles do appear during blending. We like the Vitamix, but returned our 6300 after receiving a replacement that also has the black flakes / residues appearing during blending. It's unknown what these particles are and neither does Vitamix. Vitamix blames the lid (which has nothing to do with these particles). We believe its the blade assembly, some where during the manufacturing process, something wasn't done correctly or the lower grade material was used. Thanks for going out of your way and purchasing several Brand New units to test.
  • I just tried this in my Vitamix 5200 purchased in 2009 and I get tiny black specs as well.  My guess is that it's tiny particles of the blade.  Since my old one does it, it's hard for me to believe that others are saying that theirs does not do this.
  • @tazztone
Tested it 3x with my brand new, unused "vitamix creations" jar. and each run it had a few black particles. blade date is 06 13
  • @benb8075
I just wish they still had the stainless container from 10+ years ago. :/
  • @razial5745
TNX man for your research. I was planning on buying a Vitamix until I saw this.

could be the centrifugal force causing different minerals to bind put something magnetic in the water to check for attraction that would prove iron or it could be plastic eg seal material eg
