This was the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but in 1991 Mazda’s 787B crossed the line in first place, making it the first Japanese car and only rotary powered car to win the event.
Despite all odds the 787B came out on top. Its only problems during the race were a blown headlamp bulb and a precautionary wheel bearing change. In fact, the rotary engine inside the car was in such good condition Mazda claimed that it could do another 24-hour race without any maintenance.
The Mazda 787B is an icon of the motoring world. It was David battling Goliath and will forever be remembered for its incredible win at Le Mans and its monstrous sound that can’t be mistaken for another car.
Along with creating this video, we have also written an article on the complete history of the Mazda 787B as well - garagedreams.net/history/the-history-of-the-mazda-…

Sorry for the mistake, the R26B engine featured Iannetti ceramic seals not carbon ones.
-
Finally! Something on the 787b that explains more than "it has four rotors, and it won a race."
-
I love Mazda because of how they try to differentiate themselves from the other Japanese manufacturers. It’s like the rotary is almost synonymous with the brand

Rotary: wins a race FiA: "wait, that's illegal"

Who created the color paint theme for the car. It is legendary.

So you’re telling me that 24h at Sarthe isn’t grueling enough, and there was an 84 hour endurance race at the Nurbie?

Was at Le Mans in 91 when this won my one and only time attending, Always loved the 787B what an absolutely iconic beautiful machine ❤️

This is one of many reasons why I'm a proud driver of a Mazda 6 today. They don't do like everybody else, they have been pioneers in several fields of the automobile industry, and they make the most reliable cars on the road today. You all have a pleasant trip down to the auto garage while I get in my Mazda which starts effortlessly for the 938.000th time. ❤

nice to see my sporty big brother getting some recognition for his achievements!

Iconic. It's amazing how many people love this car and it's story. 30 years I have loved this car.

Pierre Levegh attempted to drive the entire race in 1952 by himself – and almost won. Exhausted in the 24th and final hour of the race, he missed a downshift in his Talbot-Lago and over-revved the engine, breaking a connecting rod, which forced his retirement.

I'm getting a very "Mustard" vibe from these videos. I'm so glad I found this channel. Happy to be one of the early subscribers before this channel blows up...figuratively.

I just had an encounter with a dude calling himself a car guy tell me that this car didn't have a rotary. But a V12! Heh someone's been living under a rock.
