The Reliant Class Starship featured in canon for the first time in Star Trek Picard season 2 alongside the Gagarin, Sutherland and Ross vessels. This ship has a lot of lore on it from its origin in Star Trek Online and some of that translated behind the scenes to the shows so let's take a look and analyse this space ship.

  • A logistics ship with 12 phaser arrays and four torpedo tubes, with the ability to fire quantum torpedoes. It also has slipstream drive. That's a pretty powerful ship for only doing courier and logistical operations.

Despite the vain label of redshirt, the Miranda was a success of astounding proportions. What would Starfleet be without a high tech generalist?
  • Always had a soft spot for Starfleet ships that are Reliant-esque. Miranda, Akira, Nebula, etc.

I like that we have replacement for Miranda that is roughly the same size and layout of it's predecessor. You gotta figure they have starbases configured to deal with Miranda class ships, so it makes sense to have the new version be very similar to the old

Sometimes a ship just hits different, and for me that's the Reliant-class. I like the design, specifically I like the nacelles slanted at a different direction but with a type of sleek look you don't see a lot in larger vessels. It looks like a ship you could have some fun in, I know it's supposed to be designed for logistics but it still has that Starfleet toughness about it that says "underestimate me at your own risk" and wouldn't mind doing a couple of hard turns in the gravity wake of a black hole.
  • I use the Reliant Class as my main ship in STO. It took a while, but if you spend enough on it, the ship can punch above it's weight class. They're little hot-rods, with a little work. The USS Antares, NCC-93012 Reman shields and original Miranda nacelles.

QSD enables travelling a light-year every twelve seconds, with the figures given here (150 LY per 30 minutes used, or 5 LY per minute). As in, Earth to Alpha C in approximately 54 seconds. That's just insane.
  • Just like the Ambassador class succeeding the Excelsior, this is a perfect evolution for the Miranda class.
  • @samb2834
Appreciate how you've incorporated the T6 traits into this.

We all love Trek II but given the events of the film, the implications of the Reliant, its role in the secret Genesis project, its commandeering by Khan, its battle with the Enterprise, and its destruction leading to the Genesis planet and its problems, I would expect Star Fleet to steer clear of direct references to all that by naming this class in its honor.

I love the resurrection of old designs that worked. The Miranda into the Reliant, the Constitution II and Excelsior II, etc. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
  • My main Federation captain in STO tends to use the Fleet version of the Reliant...used to use the standard one for a long while as the main ship. I use the Reman cosmetic shields for it because of the metallic hull look it gives. My KDF captain uses the old klingon boat anchor they use as a carrier...same cosmetic shield...
  • She's a beauty. Great successor to Miranda. Mine would be the USS Aegis NCC 90221. Posted as border patrol, rescue, and exploration survey.

When you consider how many Mirandas there were in Starfleet through the late 24th century (at least based on the on-screen evidence), there must be tens of thousands of people for whom a Miranda was the ship where they spent the majority of their career. I like the idea that the Reliant Class honors them in some sense, the workhorse of Starfleet crewed by the workaday members of Starfleet.

One of my favorite cruisers in game as a dps eng...and just love the style.
  • @JDSleeper
I actually have a 3D print of my Reliant. The USS McFly, NCC-1985.
  • @TheHeroRises
One of those “Boy, a model would look good with the rest in my display case” ships.
  • @AeronHale
One of my favorite ships to fly alongside it's more offensively outfitted variant the Bozeman Class. It's a great little ship and exemplifies the traits that made the Miranda so successful over it's service.
  • @Evil0tto
It's a great design, easily the best of the new ships in my opinion. The same classic lines as the Reliant (making its ancestry obvious) while sporting the look of the new fleet. It looks retro and high-tech at the same time. I picked one up in-game despite having better ships already unlocked for starter characters based just on the ship's appearance, and run them up through Commander rank before I replace them.
