Everything iconic here. The total silence, the choreography on the beam, the flexibility, the risk, the gracefulness, the extreme correction... And an unbeatable charisma. Olga Korbut was the revolution, way ahead of her time. Many times conservative judges saw her skills like circus. That's why 10s were impossible to the revolutionary Olga. In 1988 she became the first gymnast to be inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Not Nadia.

I just realized this is what I miss about gymnastics. Not rushed. Graceful. Love this beautiful simplicity.

Olga was undoubtedly one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. I enjoyed watching her perform.

Not rushed, totally controlled, smooth like butter, solid, graceful, elegant, yet adorable all at the same time!

  • Please keep in mind that the beam was still wood at that time. Not covered with any material. Just hard, unforgiving wood.

Back when everyone watched and appreciated without obnoxious noise and 78 other gymnasts doing different events simultaneously.

Olga Korbut, Soviet gymnast in the 1972 Munich, West Germany Summer Olympic Games. With a style unknown to the 🌎 at the time little Olga became the sweetheart of that year's Olympiad.

And just think, she was the alternate on the team and got to join the team at the last minute. Because of that, the world sat up and took notice of this tiny Russian girl that stunned the world with her ability. Because of her, women's gymnastics became the venue to watch. Watching her as a teenager is why I live for the summer Olympics.
  • Love Olga. She started the gymnastic craze for me in 1972. Unforgettable. 💕
  • There was something so special about her. I saw her 1972 performances as a child. I could never quite like Nadia’s style no matter how perfect she was. Olga’s grace was so beautiful.
