Game of Thrones was a great TV series DESPITE the showrunners, not because of them.
  • To this day I still dont skip GOT's credits. Can't recreate magic like that but im hopeful this change is better than the indecipherable blood rivers we got in season one.

I am so glad they changed because, you right it was so confusing. 😂

What I liked about the s1 was: confirmation that Rhaenyra's 3 older sons were fathered by Harwin. Bcoz 2yrs ago fans kept debating about this not being addressed directly by the show. But its viewers who mostly weren't paying attention to the opening credits animation. Coz you clearly see Rhaenyra's blood mixed with Harwin's then they branch out to: Jacerys, Lucerys & Joffrey.

Pretty cool seeing Aegon and Rhaenyra's flags on the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

I recognise I am a huge minority here but I absolutely loved season 1's intro and the entire process of understanding the sigils for each king and deciphering the bloodline flow through the Inogrion.. it enhanced my personal experience of Season 1 and the idea of spending time going behind the meaning of the video.. Once again - I understand that I am the minority here

They should’ve did an intro map similar to how they did it in season 8 of GoT: show a few locations but go into hyper detail

Nice, the intro was indeed confusing for most people, im glad they acknowledge and changed it. Hope its way better and equally well designed.

YES the tapestries would be GREAT! They could keep the family tree and have depictions of Targaryen history thus far. There could also be woven depictions of what each family member looks like which would be interesting. I’m very excited!
  • Yeah, this new intro sounds a lot clearer. I will admit, there were some things in the first season's credits that took me ages to spot. For example, I didn't see Ser Harwin's sigil (on the right-hand side of the carving, between Rhaenyra's sigil and Jace, Luke and Joffrey's) in episodes 6-8 until earlier this year
  • I’m glad they changed it, one thing I never quite liked about it, even the original, was that it was a clockwork machine. There’s nothing in the story even close to resembling that, it was just a “rule of cool” choice.

I hope they don't dumb it down too much. I haven't read the books, but I did get it was the Targaryen bloodline and I knew it was the "Blood of old Valyria." So for me I wasn't confused. And what was in the opening of the them of "Game of Thrones" was not an astrolabe. It was an armillarysphere. An astrolabe is a two deminsional disk. An armillarysphere is three dimensional globe.

They missed a shot to have it being a room of dancers shown from above, weaving and moving around each other

I liked the concept of the Season One opening, but I agree that the execution of it was not that effective. I think it could have been if they had slowed it down just a tiny bit, and then added the character name next to the symbol representing them, so that the broader audience would be able to more easily understand it. I like the look of Bayeux tapestry for the new opening. This brings an even closer comparison to the Anarchy time period.

I’m so glad to hear that even people who know the source material well had difficulty spotting anything in the s1 intro as well cause i haven’t heard anyone talk about it. And i’m really glad they are revamping the intro for s2. but i won’t lie i really miss the map intro from GoT cause i felt it was so informative and helpful to understanding the world as a whole and important locations. Not sure the new intro will be as helpful either cause only understanding info about families still doesn’t give the same feel of putting you in the GoT/Westerosi world.

I liked season 1’s intro but they should have labeled the names hopefully this new one will give more information for people that didn’t read the books while still having cool Easter eggs for those who have

12:15 I know Im doing a Brynden Tully here, but two episodes. Tyrion and Varys passed through Volantis in S5. Theon and Yara passed through Volantis on their way to Mereen in S6. Throwback to Yara telling Theon to kill himself as a motivational speech.

Yeah, I’m happy about the opening animation changes. Like if no one told me what it was supposed to represent then I probably wouldn’t have understood it at all. But even with the bloodline explanation I still barely understood it. So something clearer would definitely be a good change of pace.
