  • I was surprised to find this movie made by turkish. I am from Vlad's land and I know He was portraied wrong by west. He was a patriot, a real fighter for justice and I very proud to call him my ancestor.

I hate how they try so hard to rewrite history. Yes Vlad Dracula was raised in an Ottoman court after he was kidnapped as a boy. He was Romanian. Vlad and his knights held off the invasion by the Turks into Europe for a very long time using fear as his main weapon. They were outnumbered by thousands. But his ruthlessness put fear in the hearts of the Turks. Vlad "The Impaler" Dracula was a Romanian hero and should be honored.
  • As a proud son of Romanian and Hungarian descent I revere the IMPALER. The Ottomans were summarily routed.

Vlad was only a monster to the Ottomans. But they were the original monsters were they not? ... Vlad is a Balkan Hero!!
  • Wow!!! I watched this movie purely for entertainment purposes - not for historical accuracies. There was so much action, great acting and the scenery was awesome that it didn't feel like a 2 hour long movie. It is definitely worth a watch or 3-4 watches it's that good.
  • A lot of comments about Vlad, but it all boils down to one simple fact. He was just like any other ruler. He did what he had to in order to protect his people and his way of life. Many others have been condemned by history for what they had to do in order to protect their country. I am a combat vet that has taken many lives to protect my country and its way of life so before you comment make sure you have done or sacrificed the same.
  • Vlad Țepeș (The impaler) was respected and loved by people of Vallachia, his country. In that times Vallachian's fight for freedom against Turkish Empire, their freedom was Europe freedom. Even Sultan Mehemet stop invade Vallachia when he saw 10.000 turks body impaled on the road to Târgoviște, the capital of Vallachian's country. The Turkish fear changed soon in a nightmare. Thats why Romanians have a great respect for their ancestors like Vlad Țepeș.
  • It’s so sad to see such misrepresentation of a great ruler such as Vlad This world needs a great man such as VLAD Vlad is the best ruler Romania ever had

Vlad Son of the Dragon (Dracul-ya) and his brother Radu the Beautiful were a hostages to keep Vlad the Dragon (Dracul) in check, by the Ottoman Empire. Vlad spent 6 years with the Ottomans, he was not a little boy like this movie depicts. His cruelty was learned at the hands of the Ottomans, who impaled, crucified, boiled and tortured their many enemies and prisoners (especially those who didn’t convert to Islam). The Ottomans released Vlad after his father and older brother were killed, but was not given an army to help him reclaim his throne. He tricked Mehmed into helping him regain his throne by promising gold tribute and 500 boys a year for the Ottomans Janissary army, plus a staging point for future Ottoman incursions into Eastern Europe. Vlad, after regaining his throne, failed to provide any of these “payments”; instead launching a campaign against the Ottomans. The Ottomans failed to protect his father and brother, failed to help him regain his throne (they had to be tricked), it was said Mehmed raped Radu and took him as a lover and after his death Mehmet 2 did the same. The Ottomans demanded much, but gave little in return. The Ottomans created the cruel ruler this movie depicted. Even though every ruler during those time did everything they called cruel and barbaric, when Vlad did the same. Vlad 3 stay a loyal Christian (Orthodox, not Catholic) and called for Christian to defend Constantinople from the Ottomans, which fell on deaf ears. The Rome papacy was Catholic and Constantinople was Orthodox, most Christians were Catholic at the time and the in fighting led to crippled Christian responses to the Islamic incursions. Vlad was such a loyal Christian that he even heeded the popes call for a crusade against the Ottomans; raised an army and campaigned against the Turks. No one else answered the call. Vlad Drácula-ya is considered the first ruler to truly suffer from negative written propaganda; the printing press was invented around the time he regained his throne. He was not fond of his own boyars, Germanic traders, and “lazy” people; boyars and Germanic traders quickly took Ottoman money and did the biddings of the Ottoman Empire, while the “lazy” were criminals who made Vlad’s lands unsafe for honest merchants. Vlad regularly culled these groups with little regard for societal politeness when dealing with wealth traders, merchant, noblemen. This led to people with access to printing presses to print negative stories, whether true or fabricated. One thing is true; the Turks were terrified of Vlad Dracul-ya. His tactics helped him defeat the larger Ottoman armies and if the few other Christian rulers who helped him, followed his tactics, the Ottoman Empire would have been defeated; especially during the infamous “Night Raid” which had Mehmet 2 scurrying back to his side of the Danube. Vlad killed 10s of thousands of Turks during his raids and battles; having impaled a supposed 20,000 Turkish prisoners outside of Targoviste, known as the forest of the impaled. Another act that sent Mehmet 2 scurrying back to his side of the Danube. The Turks feared Vlad so much, that after his supposed death and not finding his body, they feared he became a vampire and never conquered Wallachia. Vlad Drácula-ya should be held in much higher regard for his acts to save Christendom and Europe from the Islamic threat.

This is a true SF movie! Vlad was raised at the Ottoman Court, along with other captives, not with the future sultan! Once he took the throne, it was normal to defend his religion, country and people, right? He responded with the same currency to the tyrants!

If not for Vlad The Impaler, all of Europe would be speaking Turkish.
  • As a fellow European, let me thank King Vlad for keeping the Ottomans out. It was only "a battle to end all battles" because Vlad beat the "fearless warriors" so badly that the rest ran away.
  • Vlad is VERY revered in Romania, Had it not been for him, Europe would have been totally over run
  • It actually was the Turks who initiated the impaling and torture of Europeans they conquered. (It did not stay this way; after the conquests they created extra taxes for non-Muslims.) The Turks also enslaved Europeans as rowers in their war galleys under very brutal conditions. Vlad Tepes was fighting fire with fire, as he had enemies in Hungary and other regions vying for his lands, just like the Turks. He was literally in a no-win situation.
  • Vlad the Impaler was a real person, The Ottomans were invading his peoples historical lands. Vlad was noted for his extreme cruelty, but in defense of those lands. This movie is like if the Nazi's made a movie about the British defending themselves in World War 2, with the British as Vlad and the Nazi's as the Ottomans and noting the cruelty and brutality of the British bombs that killed women and children in the war.
