In today's episode we will show the renovation of an old mining lamp.
I bought this lamp on a garage sale and wanted to refurbish it into a modern style.

If you have some information about restoration photos, you can share them with others on my Facebook page:

action index:

00:01 Introducing the original rusty lantern
00:44 Dismantling of the lamp. Most of the rivets had to be ground.
05:17 The flashlight had a lot of dents that had to be leveled.
06:04 The biggest problem was to unscrew the reflective part of the lamp.
08:42 I used the bolt and nut releaser to fit the lamp lock.
09:16 The hole in the lamp housing had to be boiled off with CO2.
12:24 I decided to make a new handle because it was very rusty and would be very thin after grinding.
12:30 To cut the new handle I tried the cutting diamond wheels Graff Black Professional: www.graff-tools.com.
13:35 Test of cutting discs.
18:15 I applied a rust remover to the cleaned parts.
19:30 Base color
19:37 For coarse bonding I have chosen two-component polyester putty.
20:23 After polishing polyester putty, we use P360 spray putty.
20:48 Second layer of base paint followed.
20:57 I used a synthetic gray RAL 7005 shade on the inside of the lamp
21:18 After drying the base color I used a synthetic top color shade yellow RAL 1021.
21:50 I galvanized several parts (for detailed galvanizing of hot bath see my video:    • Old rusty lighter 4 Restoration
22:25 A broken bakelite center had to be made new.
23:40 Adjusting the screw head.
24:30 And there was a new riveting.
26:17 Since I could not get the original battery and the new one is no longer produced, it was necessary to back up the new battery.
27:03 Just when my car went wrong, a beautiful repairman came and helped me :))
27:43 Comparison before and after renovation.

A little sad that you broke the nameplate, part of the lamp's history. It was an ingenious way to unscrew the reflector, an ingenious way to collect grinding chips and an ingenious cutting disc! The lamp was very nice despite all the putty. Really nice work 👍 Carsten Sweden
  • This is something we'll never see in any of the Reader's Digest front and back covers. Both are past and present. The artists just never bothered hoing into this kind of detail. They never even thought about doing it. 🎁 😌 👌 ☺️ 🙂 😊 🎁

I like how you weave a little narrative into the end of your videos. It's a nice, loving touch.

the more of your restoration videos i watch, the more i like them. you are already one of the top 3 restorators i watch, not long and who knows?, you might be number 1
  • Рестоврация прошла супер, молодцы,но вы бы ещё в обед съездили на поле с фонариком!
  • Oh, man. The light bulb. Just had the same thing happen in my ceiling fan. And the potato trick wasn't gonna cut it. Would have ended up with hash browns. What a nightmare. Really it was. And the number of rivets in that lamp. Mercy! Excellent restore. I love your vids
  • Well done! THAT is the color a mining lamp should be. I have watched other mining lamp restore videos, all of them finished the lantern in black, of other dark color. How can a miner set the lamp down when battery is drained, and be expected to find it when it blends perfectly within the dark!? Yellow makes good sense. However, luminous paint makes better sense, as does white.
