Days after a fatal crash involving an F-16, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired the head of the country's air force, Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk.

The Ukrainian fighter pilot, known as "Moonfish," died in the crash Monday during a Russian missile attack. Oleksiy Mes' death is a major blow to Ukraine, as he was just one of six Ukrainian air force pilots qualified to fly an F-16, which started arriving in the country in early August.

“We need to protect people. Protect personnel. Take care of all our soldiers,” Zelenskyy said, according to an Associated Press translation of an address made after the official order.

I feel so sorry for those people who was forced to fight in that war.

From what I read it was most likely friendly fired and the reason for the firing of the air force commander was due to poor communication, ironic that this is not being reported by the media.

There's more to this story. Sounds like Zelenskyy is blaming that commander for more than a plane crash.

The day they were delivered, I heard one of the US generals explain that there would be losses, so don't get all freaked out when it happens. He was right, but it's easier not to freak out when you're sitting at home in the US.

This is how the "Ghost of Kyiv" was born. 😂

That's not gonna stop them from falling. I understand the limited numbers, but things are gonna crash regardless.

Ukraine's Air Force commander should have been fired after their first Sukhoi 27 fighter jets were bombed when found out in the open on an air force base tarmac within range of Russian weapons. Then the Russkies did it again and he still wasn't fired. Zelenskyy needs to clean up the military command structure before they cost the Ukrainians their freedom.
  • Did it crash? Or did they accidentally shoot it down their own jet with a Patriot Missile
  • Sounds like Zelensky's fishing for us to send them U.S. military personnel as pilots and commanders

Ukraine has crashed 2 F-16's one while training. Handing them F-16 fighters with 6 months of training, while American pilots train for 3 years, is like giving a kid who just got his driver's license a new Camaro COPO, it will not end well, if the kid figures out how to start it.

Planes go down all the time, so this isn't unusual. However, because there is no way to honestly tell if this was sabotage, faulty equipment, or falty technicians, all the crew members will be reassigned, not just the wing commander.

Who is going to get fired for the disastrous Kursk offense?
  • @Qosmokid
Why fire the commander? He wasn't flying the jet. Accidents and mishaps happen

They don’t call them lawn darts for nothing.
  • It didn't crash. It was shot down BY UKRAINE. They shot their own plane out of the sky.
