They started YEARS ago doing a study of the dam...recognized it needed a lot of work....they then did another study about "do we let it fail or do we repair it"...they decided it was too costly to repair and took a wait and see attitude.....Mother Nature finally took care of business.

There's always folks who are worse off than one's Self ... Sadly the Bridge Approach on the West bank could well be in danger of Scouring out ...
The power of the Water in this River has proved to be emence unbeleavable in fact .
One wonders just how many other Dams are in similar risk of Failure in the USA ... -

they could get in a dozer and start to push in truckloads of huge shot rock - that would significantly slow the erosion until river water flow levels are down - the dams base drain also needs opened but is probably completely silted in

remove the damn dam, and widen the flow so its not just flowing through that one channel.. let the river flow unimpeded...
