Welcome to the game man! Your discovery of it was really similar to mine. It was exactly what I was looking for in a Pokémon game and for some reason hadn’t heard about it. Also your Meowth is so sick for such a new player you’ve inspired me to make one of my own haha

I don't think it's pay to win. Patrouski mentioned pay to win for shinies via the mysterious balls but you dont really gain any competitive advantage except for selling purchases for in game money. I've bought a few vanities, donator statuses, and shiny charms but that's for me. I've also purchased most of the ocarinas for convenience. Just depends how you wanna play the game and what suits your personal needs.

It's a great time to start playing this game. I started last year and I'm having a blast. GL

Welcome to the game! I feel like this game flew under the radar for SO long. I also just heard about it last september because of the same surveillance overlords while looking for an android rom hack. Id check out trainer reruns before gym reruns, as its a little more beginner friendly! Also dont worry about the cash shop stuff, its not pay to win, just pay for some convenience. You can definitely earn it all yourself and even something like donator status takes you from 1/30000 to 1/27000 so its not a major advantage
