Evan Gershkovich: US journalist goes on trial in Russia for spying

The Wall Street journalist Evan Gershkovich has appeared in court at the start of his behind-closed-doors trial in Russia on espionage charges, which he denies.

The US embassy said Russia should stop using the reporter as a "bargaining chip" and free him immediately. He is facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.
