Ganondorf in Brawl is a contender for the absolute worst character in the entire Smash series and while his forward aerial is far from his worst move, the move does have an unusual problem behind the scenes which made the move considerably worse than the developers likely intended.

  • After a long hiatus (if you don’t count the DK video), I have returned. Sorry this took too long. This ultimately came down to a lack of motivation and me working on other projects. This video is a little bit different from my usual Smash content but I hope that this video lives up to my previous videos. I have a new mic compared to my older videos and while it isn’t perfect, I do hope it is an improvement nevertheless. If you enjoyed this video then do feel free to comment, rate, subscribe and share. I highly appreciate all support these videos get. I can promise you, it won’t take another 5 months for my next Smash analysis to come out. Edit: thank you all so, so much for the support I have received for this video. 10K views in a week is far, far beyond what I could have ever imagined. I never thought this video would get anywhere near this amount of traction and I am extreme thankful to everyone who has supported this video and channel.
  • It’s incredibly funny that Sakurai said that Ganondorf was the best. Due to his high knock back, and high damage potential. With him even playing Ganondorf in a documented video.

Programmer: Oh no... Gannon's Fair is worse than intended, let me fix it. Sakurai: No... Keep him this way.
  • @monikasalt
If he could auto cancel fair he would be a solid, solid bottom 2 now

great vid, shoutout to youtube for giving me a minute and a half of fucking ads

Weird smash moves: SSBB link's dash attack. Link is bad, his dash attack is bad since it is a low damage/knockback move that doesn't even combo, but my biggest gripe is that the animation for it is one of the ugliest animations I've ever seen. He kind of stubbles into the move vs how it looks in melee where he makes a more lunging animation. It's ugly.

With this change, Ganondorf is now better than Meta Knight
  • @Sangron64
You gotta cover Luigi's dash attack in 64 lmao, doesn't even work properly, thats one of my move suggestions Aside from that, pretty informative videos, love the editing with the memes to embrace how bad the moves are, keep it going man!!

I know brawl so well that I know the olimar matchup is slightly less a complete loss to olimar. This is because of you hit him with side b, olimar takes so long to fall cause he’s so small that you can get a free down smash. Down tilt work on everyone I think.
  • I have an interesting idea for a character analysis: Vanilla SSB4 Lucina; she was essentially an NPC character at launch. In the final version, both Marth and Lucina are lower top/upper high tiered characters that are close-to-equal in terms of tier placement. In the vanilla version, both are low tier, but Lucina in particular used to be one of the worst characters in the game and much worse than Marth. Her aerials used to only deal barely more damage than Marth's sourspots, making it so that the damage gap between her moves and Marth's sourspots was not that significant. Patch 1.1.4 would buff up both of their aerials' damage, but also make it so that Lucina's aerials only deals slightly less damage than Marth's sweetspots. However, the big thing here is that at launch, shields used to have lower shieldstun and shields used to not take hitlag modifiers into account (makes it so that Marth's sourspots lower hitlag was not being taken into account). Combine this with her lower damage at launch and her move's complete lack of hitlag modifiers, her moves used to be even less safe on shield than Marth's SOURSPOTS. This would be fixed with the universal shield mechanic changes in 1.1.0 and 1.1.1, and further improved with 1.0.8 and 1.1.0's landing lag reduction to her aerials, as well as 1.1.4's damage buffs to her aerials. Less safety on shield in comparison to Marth's sourspots singlehandedly eliminated any reason to ever use Lucina at launch. She was a worse version of an already low tier character with the main reason to use her over Marth nonexistent at launch, and the other reasons to use her over Marth used to be completely neglectable advantages. I would say vanilla SSB4 Lucina was the worst swordie at launch, but vanilla SSB4 Shulk and vanilla SSB4 Mii Swordfighter also existed....

I hate how much they really hate his fair when there's no reason for it
  • @osakeleto
thank you for starting with the video straight away. so sick of these dudes stretching their intros like 7 minutes
  • @mann-nova9392
Damn. He can't catch a break. Love the editing in this! Looking forward to checking out the rest of the series and your channel.

Dang this video is popping off! I'm glad to see this series of videos seeing more success, I've been watching since Mario's down tilt and this has been a series I've loved watching ever since. I also feel like I've learned more about how Brawl works on a technical level thanks to this video in particular
  • Fantastic video! Very digestible. Would have been kind of funny to see you totally break the move at the end as retribution, lol
  • @Zethoro
Local speedrunner branches out into goated analysis content. Love this vid! I hope you have more like it in store EDIT: it has come to my attention that you have done this for years and I have missed it. I know what I'm doing with my afternoon!
  • @notund-a
this is an incredible video, the explanation of the frame timers makes a somewhat hard to initially grasp concept very easy to understand. great work!
  • @andrewbank4696
Sakurai handled landing lag in general so weirdly. Like you get a year of landing lag if you land on one frame, but you can act instantly if you land on the next frame? Brawl simply magnified the problem by increasing landing lag across the board.
  • @SSJPENGUIN
Love to see more moves from various smash titles down the line🙌 Great video!!
