Why Are People Leaving Florida - Is It REALLY That Bad?

Published 2024-06-29
Searches on the internet asking "Why Are People Leaving Florida" are trending up. This begs the question, is it really that bad?

It's no secret that more people have moved to Florida over the past four years than to any other state besides Texas. But why are more people than normal deciding to leave Florida?

Is it the cost of living, climate, weather, insurance, property taxes, politics, education, and culture?

Today, we'll discuss why people move to Florida, why some are forced to leave their homes in the Sunshine State, and why others are just choosing to leave.

If you're considering relocating and buying a home in Florida, we'd love to guide you through the process.

If you're considering selling your home and leaving the Sunshine State, know you're not alone. And we would love to be your real estate team of choice.

  • I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

Old people used to come to Florida for retirement and now they canโ€™t afford to live here.
  • No fire sale and it is far different than 2007/2008. WHY, because condo fees have doubled and tripled, insurance costs have gone through the roof, repairs and reserves on most buildings are out of control so no real estate agents are willing to say that if you think you need $1500 a month then double the money to meet all the other expenses so you actually need $3000. I had no mortgage and I was priced out of my condo just because of the huge increase in condo fees, insurance, repairs, and taxes, huge. Just moved to Europe at 73 years old since USA is out of control.

I'm from Florida and I left as soon as I could a few years ago. Wages are so low in Florida. I'm having a blast in Kansas City, Missouri and I'm financially secure here.

Please leave, and take your Teslas with you!
  • A hurricane destroyed my house and my homeowners insurance dropped me. DON'T MOVE TO FLORIDA.

A lot of broke people here and scammers because no jobs here really paying over 40k. Please leave so prices can go back down. Be scared of the heat , cost , hurricanes , power outages for over 2 weeks , jobs 16hr, traffic , bugs crawling in your home while sleep, and etc .

Overall, Florida is too expensive & overhyped ... but come, just be ready to be in deep regret afterwards. I say visit for a month...if you don't like it. Cool.
  • A lot of people leave FL not only due to the high cost living but the low wages. I'm not just talking about the blue collar jobs but across the board wages are below the national average.
  • @cayrick
Along with a growing population is growing traffic issues. In the last 10 yrs of visiting Miami traffic has become almost unbearable.
  • You hit the nail on the head with the 80% increase in home values since 2018. In Pinellas County, you can't find a decent home for under $300k. Couple that with flood insurance, and it's not worth it for most people. Those who come to Florida and think the beaches are clean and empty find out quickly that it is crowded as hell, especially on weekends and holidays.

I left Florida (Tampa Bay) 4 days ago after living there for 27 years & only regret not doing it sooner. Jobs & pay suck, housing crisis ignored by state government, cost of living has skyrocketed despite said jobs & pay, sweltering summers that seem to never end, hurricane anxiety (Category 4 & 5 are the new normal), worst drivers in the country, perpetually angry people, outrageous insurance (home & car), toxic politics, proudly ignorant & outspoken population, Ron DeSantisโ€ฆ.how many words/characters does YouTube allow in the comments section?

If you want to move to Florida and want to buy a house, please talk to the people in the neighborhood or the area you want to move in and live in. They will tell you the average prices of the homes and the history of the area, ask about possible flooding and other things that might be a worry. I have lived here all my life and i will honestly tell the house prices are ridiculous and they usually arent worh the amount of money your being asked to pay for them.
  • @TheRealSG
I've lived in the Tampa area for 10 years. I am considering a move very soon. The cost of living have increased tremendously, but the wages haven't kept pace. The weather has changed as well. Much hotter summers and colder winters (still no snow though). Insurance prices (auto and home) are insane. Property taxes have skyrocketed. The public school systems always rate low. Home process have been coming down, but are still way too high.
  • @TommyVXOLucia
I'm not saying don't move to FL, just all the issues are real. And you will experience them all when you come here... once you get over your honeymoon with this state. Then comes logical thinking also people be getting scammed out here
  • @joanmoore3018
I am a native Floridian, fifth generation. This state has changed tremendously over the years. Cost have gone up and so many people. When people move here they need to understand that they are going to have to adjust to many changes. We have thought about relocating to another state because of these changes. For now we stay, but might relocate in the future.
  • Thank you, Juan, for this video (and other videos, too)! Agree with you 100%. My husband and I moved to FL 5 years ago and have loved it since then, just like you! With all the challenges totally worth for us. We love living close to the best beaches, enjoying the lifestyle, nature, and warm climate! First, we lived on the east coast, Boca Raton, but then fell in love with the Gulf Coast and, therefore, relocated to Tampa Bay last year. We do make little less money here than where we came from, but we spend less on travels as FL has everything we love! All the best to you and your lovely family โค
