Keep it up Brad. Part of the problem with us runners is we like running too much so the other stuff gets the short end of the stick.

Woke up to see your update had dropped (I’ve been hanging for this next instalment). It’s made my morning 🙌🙌 Great to hear that your eye is healing and that you are keeping the boxes turning green. And thank you to Shona and Lindsey for the great reinforcement that walking and strength are both great contributors. I am slowly getting back into it and your journey continues to inspire. Thank you for making my day. 🤩🥳😊

Glad to see you are giving these elements (nutrition and exercise) their own episodes as they entail more detail when discussing running for weight loss. Great to also hear Shona mention the balance of Calories in-calories out in the process. As a former overweight runner, walking and strength training formed the basis for longer and stronger runs. I would feel though that the nutrition episode may be the most important, as I remember that the added increase in activity made me even more hungry, so getting in low-calorie but dense meals (both from a nutrient and consistency stand point) was key to keep a healthy caloric deficit for weight loss.

Brad, I'm loving following your hourney! I'm cheering you on, and at the same time, inspired! I think I must have started with CP about the same time you began this come back journey, so it's extra cool to imagine we're pals on the same path. You're awesome, yay you!

Great episode, it’s the first time I’ve watched The Comeback. I’m doing a comeback of sorts myself, getting back into strength training with calisthenics and running after a nearly 8 year absence. Definitely noticing the fat coming off with my 3x/week 50-minute heavy calisthenics. I wish you continued luck and success, my man!
  • Very useful information and perspective. Thank you. I started a year ago quite overweight. For months I found that all I could comfortably do was walking in various contexts. Gradually I was able to add in and then increase running. (I have also been practicing resistance training, both body weight and with free weights in the gym.) It has been a long process, but it feels good to look back and see all the progress. BTW: I’m watching in the US. It just occurred to me that it’s Summertime down there where you’re filming. Quite chilly here still. 🙂

Good work Brad! Some advice if I may: Focus on the stuff that's not fun. Obviously the walking is fun, so you do it almost automatically. But start to deposit the "boring" training sessions as well. Sitting on a stationary bike is boring. So, make it your first focus to tick those off. The other fun exercises will (to some degree) come on It's own. (This is only my opinion). 😀

  • Following you as I try to make my own comeback! Ok I get it - Do strength training! :-)

Brad Great work, keep going - Now Just remember I am banking on being able to run with you at the Cape Town Marathon (CT Being my favorite marathon) ~ See you there 😉 PS As we "age" that strength & cross training become less enticing BUT more critical
