i hope they all got awards but extra special ones for the police officers and the helicopter crew!
-
That legendary pilot is fighting with the controls!
-
That pilot is fighting a whole dam hurricane
-
That was one dicey resque: near the cliff being battered about by the wind and setting the rescuer into a small pocket of rocks. Bravo!!!!
-
That pilot needs a medal and a BIG bonus! Others do too
-
Damn huge respect to the team that ensured that safety prevailed throughout this rescue.
-
Hovering a helicopter without wind is tricky enough as it is, dealing with gusts like that is absolutely amazing! I can't even imagine how much concentration it took for that pilot to keep that heli as still as he did! He is certainly in the right career! 👍
-
Astonishing, I am very impressed. Not being a pilot, I have no idea how risky this rescue was, but with the wind it looks to be challenging in the extreme!
-
Pretty awesome effort .... watching that pilot as his load was dynamic on the rope .... awesome effort.

I've flown up the Manawatu gorge a number of times, and can appreciate how difficult this rescue must have been. It looked like it was blowing big time and that wind just funnels through that gorge. Hugh respect for the pilot and the rescue services who took part in this event.

i salute to the pilot and the crew
-
Holy shit! That was very risky with that wind around. My respect to that brave pilot.
-
New Zealand, home to the windiest city in the world. Fucking insane hovering ability
-
Thank you for your help, HUMANITY HAVE TO BE ABOVE EVERY THING
-
I do hoist rescues in that same helo, I commend them because the wind was no joke. That some tough stuff there!
-

This is actually my local rescue helicopter and I see it every day. I think I was in class this day when this happened and it flew over a few times coming and going from the hospital. I’ve actually been inside the helicopter and it’s way smaller inside than you would think. Pretty cool!
