Funny how the first and last BDO worlds were won by a Welshman taking out 50 to win by going 10 and D20 after having a dart at the bull bounce out for the title.

What good memories. R.I.P to a legend. E.BRISTOW🕯😢
-
Met Martin Adams in redruth during an exhibition, took the time out to pose for a picture and asked about my family, chatted for about 10 minutes, really nice bloke!

I think there's no finish more famous than Deller's 138. It's etched in darts history.

John Lowe - bester Sportler aus meiner Grafschaft von Derbyshire - danke sehr für's Hochladen, DG!

Great reaction from Taylor against Gregory. In hitting the winning double he looked absolutely gutted for Mike. 😢

General comments on each final --- 1978 - Somewhat underwhelming game. The best moment of that tournament was Rees' 10-darter in his match against Evans. Still, it is the first so it's quite clearly notable. 1979 - One of the worst finals. Rees just wasn't up to emulating his success of the year before. Did he not have a bad arm as well? 1980 - The final that really put the event into its stride. The chanting battles in the crowd (Bobby George!, Bristow! etc) is one of the great moments. 1981 - Lowe ought to have won. He was 2-0 up in sets and apparently could have made it 3-0. He also should have taken it to a deciding set. 1982 - Jocky wins for the first time, but a less memorable final than his second one. 1983 - Probably the most famous darts match ever. The 138 checkout after Bristow had declined to go for the bull is the stuff of legends. But Deller should have won 6-3. Maybe it wouldn't be as well remembered if he had done. 1984 - Forgettable final with one of the more forgettable top players of the 1980s. Whitcombe did at least manage to win a set here. 1985 - Probably peak Bristow. I think this was the one where he hit 15 180s, which was a record for a long time. 1986 - Like 1984, but a whitewash. The first at Frimley Green. 1987 - Not only the end of Bristow's dominance, but arguably also the start of the decline of darts as a televised spectacle. The recovery wouldn't take place until the 2000s. Great performance by Lowe. The signs of dartitis in Bristow can be seen. 1988 - Bob Anderson's win, always a better player than single world title suggests. A good close match too. 1989 - Possibly the second best final of the 1980s, after 1983. The Bristow comeback was something to behold. A deserved eventual win by Jocky, another player who ought to have won more. 1990 - The arrival of Taylor, who would remain an obscure figure to the general public for years despite dominating the game. Bristow was clearly past his peak by this point. 1991 - A sad game to watch due to Bristow's lacklustre display, but Priestley was a class act. 1992 - The best pre-split final. Solid play throughout, aside from Gregory's six missed darts for the watch, which gave it a dramatic element. Had Taylor lost this then the ensuing history of the game may have been different - it probably gave him that extra bit of confidence and he saw right in front of him how important it is to maintain bottle. 1993 - Good tournament with a crap final. Could have done with Bobby George (who ran Lowe close in the semi-finals) being in it. Warriner's only world final. He did actually pull it back from 5-1 to 5-3, perhaps giving the slight impression of Bristow in 1989. Might do more later.

That Phil nixon final was awesome I remember it well 6-0 to 7-6. RIP Phil
-
Some great memories. Shame that Gregory missed all those match darts. And O Shea really deserved at least one world title.
-
PDC darts once it got going was a different level
-
"One Phil Taylor, there's only one Phil Taylor" simply the best, his record will never be beaten, or equalled
-
If only Gregory could hit his doubles, the future of darts could of taken a completely different route.
-
I'm not a huge darts expert but I still remember Ted Hankey's 170 to win the title and we always loved this event in our house.
-
My request!!!!🔥 Thank you for this!!!

Small mistake at 89: It was Wilson's 2nd title

The PDC and BDO world championships will always be one of my darts tournaments to watch! And the WDF is running their own world championship as well!

There's one... there's two with the bullseye for the title.... YES WHAT A SHOT!! That's the greatest BDO moment ever of all time I have to say! A 170 out shot! Haven't seen many like that! 6-0 as well Unreal
